Alcudia to Mahón ferry: direct with Trasmed and alternatives

With Trasmed

Yes, there is a direct ferry from Alcudia to Mahón (Maó): it is run by Trasmed, which has it active on its website with departures in the calendar depending on the date. Check your day in the search.

If your date has no departure, the most widely used option is to cross to Ciutadella with Baleària or Menorca Lines and continue about 45 km by road to Mahón, by bus or car; there is no train.

The other is to go by road from Alcudia to Palma, about 55 km, and take the Trasmed ferry from Palma to Mahón, which has few departures a week.

Residents of the Balearic Islands get a resident discount on the passenger fare, not on the car; the percentage is that of each ferry company's fare: check in the search.

Alcudia to Mahón ferry timetable

In the search you see the departures for the date you choose, with their ferry company and time. Trasmed has Alcudia–Mahón active on its website, as a direct trip with departures in the calendar; frequency and seasonality vary, so check your date.

If your day has no direct departure, look at the two alternatives: the Alcudia Ciutadella ferry (the one with the most departures) and the Palma Mahón ferry (few departures, with Trasmed). The opposite direction is on the Mahón Alcudia ferry page.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

How long does it take to get from Alcudia to Mahón by ferry?

It depends on the route. Trasmed's direct ferry links Alcudia and Mahón without changing ships; you can see the duration of each departure in the timetable. The Alcudia–Ciutadella crossing is the short hop between the two islands, on a fast ferry, followed by a stretch by road to Mahón. Via Palma, the Trasmed ferry is a half-day crossing, with no fast ferry.

  • Baleària (Alcudia–Ciutadella): fast ferry and conventional ferry. Online check-in with a digital boarding pass from 72 hours before and notices by WhatsApp or SMS if the departure changes.
  • Menorca Lines (Trasmapi), also Alcudia–Ciutadella: accepts cars, motorbikes, vans and bicycles, free pets on a lead or in a carrier and 20 kg of luggage without a vehicle. With a vehicle, the open ticket is not valid.
  • Trasmed (Grimaldi group): Alcudia–Mahón direct and Palma–Mahón, with a conventional ferry, no luggage weight limit and, for pets, an adapted cabin, a seat or kennels.

The direct departure from Alcudia to Mahón is Trasmed's; those of Baleària and Menorca Lines arrive in Ciutadella.

Alcudia to Mahón ferry price

If you see a direct departure, the price above is the lowest recent one for an adult without a car. If you take one of the alternatives, the total cost is the sum of the parts:

  • Via Ciutadella: a short ferry, plus the bus or car to Mahón.
  • Via Palma: the 55 km to Palma and the Trasmed ferry, a half-day crossing.
  • The car: it is paid separately from the driver and depends on its dimensions.

The resident discount lowers the passenger fare, not the car.

Balearic resident discount

If you live in the Balearic Islands you get a resident discount on the passenger ticket on inter-island routes (according to each ferry company's resident fare; check in the search). It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras.

  • Say that you are a resident in the search on iloveferry.com/ferris. With Baleària, all passengers on the booking must be residents.
  • Bring your DNI or NIE and the residence certificate.
  • With Baleària, if you have an authorised parking card and live in the Balearic Islands, your vehicle gets a reduction on inter-island routes: say you have reduced mobility when you book.

More in the Balearic resident discount guide.

Large family discount

The Spanish card gives 20% (general) or 50% (special) off the passenger fare, not the car. Bring the original, valid card or individual card and the identity document of each traveller. With Baleària, the first time you prove it at the ticket office. Guide: large family discount ferry.

How to go from Alcudia to Mahón with a car

With a car, Trasmed's direct ferry takes you to Mahón without the 45 km of road from Ciutadella. Enter the type, make and model when you book; Trasmed says to arrive 60 minutes early with a vehicle and 30 on foot. During Menorca's fiestas, book the car deck in good time.

If your date has no direct ferry, the route via Ciutadella is usually the most practical: you cross with Baleària or Menorca Lines, which accept vehicles, and drive about 45 km by road. Via Palma you need to drive the car 55 km to the port and board it with Trasmed on a line with few departures: declare the exact dimensions, because changing the ticket at the port costs money.

Alcudia to Mahón ferry with a dog

The rules depend on the ferry company: Baleària accepts a carrier of up to 10 kg in the lounge, a pet friendly seat or cabin on some ships, and a kennel; Menorca Lines accepts pets free of charge, on a lead or in a carrier, with a microchip and vaccinations; Trasmed, in an adapted cabin, a seat or kennels. For a short crossing, Menorca Lines or Baleària are the most comfortable options. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.
