Ferry Isla de Lobos
Ferry Isla de Lobos: the gateway to Fuerteventura's natural paradise
❤︎Ferry Isla de Lobos is the specialist operator for passenger transport between the port of Corralejo (northern Fuerteventura) and the Isla de Lobos Natural Park, with continuous operations since 1970. It runs 365 days a year with up to 14 daily sailings, and is based at Corralejo Pier, the departure point for all excursions. With a crossing of just 15 minutes, its vessels connect the lively northern coast of Fuerteventura with one of the best-preserved uninhabited islets in the Canary Islands archipelago: a protected area of just over 4.5 km² where there are no cars, no shops and no noise — just nature, crystal-clear beaches and hiking among volcanoes. In addition to the regular ferry service, the operator offers the exclusive Celia Cruz mini-cruise — with underwater viewing — and Ferry + Bus packages with pick-up from various points on the island, all coordinated with the compulsory access permit to the protected area.

It has been serving this route since the company's beginnings in the 1970s.

Whale and dolphin watching excursion
Ferry Isla de Lobos, through Grupo Oby, also offers dedicated whale and dolphin watching outings in the waters off northern Fuerteventura. The currents of the La Bocaina Channel, between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, form one of the most active whale and dolphin migration corridors in the Canary Islands. Tickets for these excursions are available in the tickets section of ferryisladelobos.com.
Ferry Isla de Lobos harbours
Ferry Isla de Lobos operates between just two points: Corralejo Pier (Fuerteventura) and the El Puertito jetty on Isla de Lobos. Neither has hotels or shops in its immediate surroundings; the island is a protected natural park with no roads, no shops and only one restaurant that does not accept reservations. Bringing water, food and sun protection is essential.
About Isla de Lobos: The islet lies just 2.5 nautical miles north-east of Corralejo. It covers approximately 4.5 km² and forms part of the Islote de Lobos Natural Park, designated as a Full Nature Reserve. Its name derives from the monk seals ("sea wolves") that historically inhabited it. Today it is home to more than 100 plant species and an important bird colony (herring gulls, bustards, shearwaters). Its main attractions include Playa de la Concha, the Punta Martiño lighthouse, the La Caldera volcanic cone, El Puertito and a recently discovered Roman archaeological site. There is no motorised transport on the island: the whole circuit can be walked on foot in around 3 hours.

On board: service types and accommodation
As this is a 15-minute crossing, the Ferry Isla de Lobos vessels have no cabins or first-class services. The on-board experience is simple and focused on enjoying the journey and the views:
Deck seating (standard): the only option available; all passengers travel on the open deck or in a covered area depending on the vessel. The ticket always includes the return journey.
Underwater viewing (Celia Cruz only): the 16 windows in the hull allow passengers to observe the seabed during the crossing, turning the trip into a marine observation activity at no extra cost on the mini-cruise.
Private experience (OBY Catamaran): for those seeking maximum comfort and exclusivity, the Grupo Oby private catamaran (up to 12 people) includes drinks, lunch, water activity equipment and personalised service in the price.
No cabins: the duration of the crossing (15 minutes) makes any form of on-board accommodation unnecessary.
No cafeteria or bar on the regular ferry: it is recommended to bring water, snacks and anything you need for your visit to the island, as there is only one restaurant on Lobos (no reservations possible).
Tips for your visit: Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before travelling, and bring a hat, a light layer for windy days, a towel, swimwear, food and plenty of water. The island has only one restaurant with no reservation option. Remember that you cannot store luggage on the island and that everything must be done on foot.
Luggage, bicycles and pets
Luggage
Ferry Isla de Lobos does not impose strict luggage regulations for the regular ferry. As Isla de Lobos is a protected natural space with no storage facilities and visits typically last only a few hours, the operator recommends bringing only the essentials: a small rucksack or day bag is more than sufficient. The indicative limit stated on some booking channels is 20 kg per person. Parasols, small cool boxes and surfboards are accepted, though the latter require a specific ticket.
Bicycles and surfboards
Bicycles and surfboards can be taken on board, but require the purchase of a specific ticket for the item during the booking process. In any case, please note that Isla de Lobos has no roads or paths suitable for organised cycling; all the trails are dirt and sand tracks. It is advisable to consider whether bringing these items is appropriate for the type of visit planned.
Vehicles
Ferry Isla de Lobos does not accept cars or motorcycles. The service is exclusively for foot passengers. Isla de Lobos has no road infrastructure or motorised vehicles whatsoever; there are no roads on the islet.
Pets
Pets are not permitted on board the Ferry Isla de Lobos vessels. This restriction applies both under the operator's own policy and under the protection rules of the Isla de Lobos Natural Park, whose native wildlife (nesting birds, endemic reptiles, etc.) is particularly sensitive to the presence of domestic animals.
Required documentation
To board, you must present the following at check-in (20 minutes before departure): your booking confirmation (in print or on your phone), the DNI or passport of all passengers, and the Isla de Lobos access authorisation issued by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. This permit is free of charge and can be obtained at lobospass.com, or is included automatically when booking directly with Ferry Isla de Lobos. Canary Islands residents must show their DNI to prove their status and access the special price.
Important! Access to Isla de Lobos is regulated with a maximum capacity of 400 visitors per day. Without the Cabildo authorisation it is not possible to disembark on the island. Apply for the permit at lobospass.com up to 4 hours before your visit, or manage everything in a single step when booking your ticket online with Ferry Isla de Lobos. In the high season places sell out quickly: book as far in advance as possible.
