General information about Armas Trasmediterránea
❤︎Armas Trasmediterránea (Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea S.A.) is Spain's leading ferry group and one of the most significant in Europe for passenger and ro-ro cargo shipping. Founded in 1941 in Lanzarote by Antonio Armas Curbelo with small wooden vessels for goods transport, the company grew to become the benchmark for inter-island transport in the Canary Islands. In October 2017 it acquired 92.71 % of Trasmediterránea for €260 million — a deal approved by Spain's competition authority (CNMC) in May 2018 — creating the largest Spanish ferry group. Today it operates 26 routes connecting the Canary Islands with each other, with mainland Spain, and with ports in Morocco, Algeria, Ceuta and Melilla. In 2024 it carried 3.3 million passengers, 1.1 million vehicles and 4.5 million lane metres of cargo. Its most popular connections are the Las Palmas–Tenerife ferry, the Los Cristianos–La Gomera ferry and the Cádiz–Canaries ferry.
The Volcán de Tagoro, Armas Trasmediterránea's high-speed catamaran, covers the Las Palmas–Tenerife route in approximately 90 minutes at 35 knots.
