Genoa to Olbia Ferry: The Seasonal Crossing to the Costa Smeralda
Moby and GNV run the ferry from Genoa to Olbia, with direct day and night crossings between the port of Genoa and the port of Olbia, in the north-east of Sardinia. Moby operates seasonally, from May to September.
It is a long crossing, between ten and thirteen hours depending on the ferry. With the overnight sailing you arrive in the morning, and with the daytime one you leave early and arrive at night.
Tirrenia does not run this route. To travel all year round, the alternative is Genoa to Porto Torres.
Genoa to Olbia ferry timetable
Above you can see the sailings for your date. Moby offers daytime and overnight sailings during its season, which starts in May and runs to September, and in some seasons until early November. GNV has the route on its website, but does not fix the seasonality: you need to check it in the search.
Day or night
The overnight sailing is the usual one if you want to arrive in the morning and make the most of the day. The daytime one saves you the cabin, but you arrive at night. If you are travelling with children or a dog, the overnight sailing with a cabin is usually more comfortable.
The return is on the Olbia to Genoa page.

Children and discounts from Genoa to Olbia
Moby and GNV have their own conditions for children; you will see them when you book, according to the age you enter for each passenger. If you live in Sardinia, Moby has a resident fare on its four routes on the island, with limited places on some sailings, and GNV has its own, which also applies to the accompanying car. These are the ferry company's fares: check with us whether we can apply them before booking.
Genoa to Olbia ferry with a car
You can take a car, motorbike, motorhome or van. With Moby, report 2 hours before in Genoa if you are taking a vehicle. Boarding for cars closes earlier than for foot passengers, and in the port of Genoa access depends on the ferry company, so check your boarding card before going.
With GNV, the driver boards with the car alone and the other passengers go on foot; if you have LPG, declare it when boarding.
Genoa to Olbia ferry with a dog
Moby has cabins with access for animals (maximum three, limited in number) and only allows pets on outdoor decks and in those accommodations. GNV has the Four-legged Friends Cabin (“Cabina Amigos de cuatro patas”), for a maximum of two pets and in limited numbers; otherwise, a kennel or cat kennel. Book in advance in both cases. Bring the health record book, a lead and a muzzle. More information on travelling by ferry with a dog.
On board: choosing a cabin
On a crossing of more than ten hours, a cabin changes the journey. Moby has double and quadruple cabins, useful for families. Reclining seats are the budget alternative on the daytime sailing.
