History and background of the ship
The Ciudad de Palma (IMO 9307387) is the direct sister ship of the Ciudad de Granada, built alongside her between 2003 and 2005 at the Hijos de J. Barreras yard in Vigo and delivered to Trasmediterránea. The two share an identical design, identical dimensions and identical technical specifications. After Trasmediterránea was absorbed into the Naviera Armas group, she was renamed Ciudad de Palma in honour of the Balearic capital.
She is now Naviera Armas's flagship on the scheduled services to Mallorca, working mainly the Barcelona–Palma de Mallorca route. With more than 2,000 lane metres for vehicles, she is particularly prized by haulage firms and by private travellers who need to move lorries, vans and cars between the mainland and the island. The port of Palma de Mallorca: how to get there and what to bear in mind
The Ciudad de Palma sails from the port of Barcelona (the Trasmed terminal on the Moll de Sant Bertran) and the port of Valencia (the Trasmed terminal on the Moll de Ponent) to the port of Palma de Mallorca, barely 10 minutes on foot from the city's old quarter.
