Formentera Lines (previously known as Mediterránea Pitiusa) was founded in 2000 out of the commitment of several generations of local shipowners. In 2022 it became part of the IMG Group (Insotel Marine Group) under the Formentera Lines brand, and it is now one of the busiest operators on the Ibiza–Formentera route, with up to 9 sailings a day in each direction in high season. It is the only operator running the night crossing between the two islands.

History and background of the ship
The Ibiza Jet (IMO 7626176) is the oldest ship in the Formentera Lines fleet: she was built in 1977 at the Westamarin yard in Mandal (Norway), yard number 53, as a Westamarin W95. For 16 years she worked in Scandinavia as HSC Tranen for the Danish company Dampskibsselskabet Øresund, covering the Flyvebådsruten — the celebrated "flying boat route" — between Copenhagen and Malmö across the Øresund strait, a vital international link before the bridge that now joins Denmark and Sweden was built.
In April 1993 she was bought by Umafisa and Sercomisa (Trasmapi) and renamed Ibiza Jet, becoming one of the first fast aluminium catamarans on the scheduled Ibiza–Formentera line. In 2008 she was given a major technical and cosmetic overhaul to extend her working life. In June 2020 she swapped the blue Trasmapi livery for that of Mediterránea Pitiusa (today Formentera Lines), for whom she still provides extra capacity on the same route.

The port of La Savina: the only way into Formentera
The Port of La Savina is the only port of entry to Formentera and the destination of every ferry that reaches the island. Set on the north-west coast, barely 6 km from the centre of the capital, Sant Francesc de Formentera, it has a passenger terminal, operator offices, ticket desks, a café and taxi and bus stops. From La Savina it is very easy to reach the rest of the island by bus, by bicycle or in a hire vehicle.
The departure point on Ibiza is the Ibiza ferry terminal (Port of Ibiza / Port d'Eivissa), in the centre of town, about 8 km from Ibiza airport. If you are arriving by air, you can reach the port by taxi (roughly 15-20 minutes) or by bus. We recommend getting to the ferry terminal at least 20-30 minutes before the ferry sails.
One important detail: Formentera has no airport. The ferry from Ibiza is the only way to reach the island, for residents and holidaymakers alike. The distance between the two islands is roughly 20 km (10.8 nautical miles).

A standard adult ticket with Formentera Lines starts at €24 (single) and €43.50 (return) in mid season. Prices can be somewhat higher in high season. Booking ahead is advisable, particularly in July and August.
