She covers the roughly 17 km between the Port of Ibiza and the Port of La Savina (Formentera) in just 30 minutes, making her one of the most efficient fast ferries of her class in the Mediterranean. She is the third Rodman 100 catamaran built for Trasmapi by the Galician yard Rodman Polyships, and brings significant technical refinements over her sister ships to improve efficiency, cut fuel use and reduce underwater noise pollution.
She joined the fleet in October 2020, the result of a collaboration between four leading teams: the Rodman Polyships yard (Vigo), the naval engineering firm RVelasco, the hydrodynamics consultancy D3 Applied Technologies and Trasmapi's own technical department. Her construction drew on cutting-edge techniques such as CFD simulation, CNC mould machining and infusion lamination, along with a new underwater hull geometry at the bow developed by D3 Applied Technologies to improve her hydrodynamic behaviour.
The Migjorn Jet was built to the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft (HSC Code) and holds Bureau Veritas Global Safe certification. On board she has air purification systems with UV-C lamps and very high efficiency filters, capable of neutralising up to 99.9% of the pathogens in the cabin air. Her engines have an exhaust aftertreatment system that cuts emissions by up to 15% and noise by up to 70% compared with earlier generations, with a fuel saving of around 10%.
History and background of the ship
The Migjorn Jet was built in 2012 at the Spanish Rodman Polyships yard in Vigo (Galicia) as a Rodman 46 HJ in reinforced fibreglass, ordered directly by Trasmapi to modernise its fast ferry fleet in the Pitiusas. She is the largest of the company's Rodman-type vessels. Her name is a tribute to the south coast of Ibiza: Migjorn literally means "midday" in Catalan/Ibizan, a reference to the sun and the southerly wind that bathe those beaches.
Since her launch she has worked the Port of Ibiza–La Savina (Formentera) route exclusively, and is Trasmapi's highest-capacity passenger ship on the es Freus crossing. Her catamaran design, optimised for speed and comfort in Mediterranean waters, lets her complete the crossing in under 30 minutes, with very frequent departures right through the season.
The name Migjorn refers to the southerly wind — the midday wind — in the seafaring tradition of the Pitiusas, and is also the name of one of the districts of Formentera. Like every ship in the Trasmapi fleet, her name evokes the places and natural features of the Balearic islands that her daily service connects.
Trasmapi, whose registered company name is Servicios y Concesiones Marítimas Ibicencas, S.A. (Sercomisa), has been sailing between Ibiza and Formentera for more than 50 years, carrying over a million passengers a year and establishing itself as the benchmark operator in the Pitiusas.

The port of La Savina: how to get there and what to bear in mind
The Migjorn Jet works into the Port of La Savina, Formentera's only port, at the northern tip of the island. From the port, Formentera's most famous beaches — Ses Illetes, Llevant, Migjorn — are within reach by bicycle, scooter or hire car. It is barely 4 km from the port to the centre of Sant Francesc Xavier, the island's capital.
Important if you are travelling in July or August with a car: the Consell de Formentera regulates the arrival of vehicles in high season through the formentera.eco portal. You must apply for the access permit in advance if you plan to bring your own car in July or August. For the rest of the year no additional permit is needed.
If you are travelling on the Migjorn Jet as a foot passenger, you do not need to book nearly as far ahead. Even so, in high season (July and August) we recommend booking online in advance to secure a place on the sailing you want.

A passenger ticket on the Migjorn Jet starts at roughly €15–20 each way for non-residents in mid season, with return fares from around €40. Trasmapi's prices stay fairly steady through the year (they do not swing with the season the way air fares do), although you can still get a better deal by booking online in advance.
