How long does the ferry from Cádiz to Gran Canaria take?

About a day and a half. The exact time depends on the option: the Tuesday one includes a stop and the Saturday one a transfer. The duration of your sailing appears in the search.

Only Baleària links Cádiz with Gran Canaria. If you were looking for the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària), this is the line. Fred Olsen does not sail from Cádiz.

All of Gran Canaria is reached and left via Las Palmas. The ferry company does not use Agaete.

Cádiz Gran Canaria ferry price

The price you see above is the lowest recent one for an adult without a vehicle. It changes with the accommodation: seat, cabin, VIP or Premium lounge.

If you travel with a vehicle, its price is added to the driver's and gets no resident discount.

Canary Islands resident discount: Cádiz Gran Canaria

Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the passenger ticket on domestic routes. It does not apply to the car or to extras: the 75% applies only to the passenger fare; check at booking how charges such as the cabin or the VIP lounge are treated.

  • Calculate your resident price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by switching on “Resident in the Canary Islands?”.
  • Bring your DNI or NIE and your residence document.
  • More information at Canary Islands resident discount.

Ferry to the Canary Islands with a large family

The regulations give 20% to a general large family and 50% to a special one on regular domestic sea transport. Bring your valid card and check at booking whether the fare applies it. More information at ferry with large family discount.

Cádiz Gran Canaria ferry with a car

Baleària carries cars, motorbikes, caravans and motorhomes on this line. Enter the vehicle when you search. A vehicle cannot travel without a passenger.

With the Saturday option, check that your vehicle also boards on the transfer leg. You cannot access the car during the crossing.

Cádiz Gran Canaria ferry with a dog

Baleària carries pets on the booking: you need a valid pet health record. On this line there is a pet-friendly cabin, where the pet travels with you, with a water bowl and special cleaning; there are also seats with a mat or carrier and calm kennels on the ships that have them. The pet cannot stay in the car and is not allowed on the Ferry Bus. More information at travelling by ferry with a dog.

On board: cabin, seat and fast ferry

On the long-haul ship there are standard seats, superior seats and double or quadruple cabins, inside or outside and all with a bathroom. There are also VIP and Premium lounges with extras. Cabins only exist on the ships that have them: on legs by fast ferry you travel in a seat.

On the Saturday option, the last leg is by fast ferry with an assigned VIP seat: there are no cabins on that ship.

Ports of Cádiz and Gran Canaria (Las Palmas)

How to get to the Puerto de la Bahía de Cádiz

The terminal is in the Puerto de la Bahía de Cádiz. With a car and for a long journey, arrive with time to spare: the boarding cut-off in Cádiz is earlier than on the inter-island routes and appears on your ticket.

Arriving in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The ferry arrives at the port of Las Palmas, in the La Luz area. There is a free Ferry Bus between the Fundación del Puerto office and the quay on some sailings, for those arriving without a car and without a pet.

If you are coming from the south of the island or from Maspalomas, allow for the drive along the GC-1 motorway to Las Palmas.

Documents for the ferry between the Canary Islands and the mainland

It is a domestic route within the EU: adults need a valid DNI, NIE or passport. For a resident or large family discount, bring the document that proves it. With a pet, its valid pet health record; with a car, the vehicle papers.

I Love Ferry tips for getting from Cádiz to Gran Canaria

  • Stop or transfer: the Tuesday option keeps the same ship; the Saturday one requires changing in Tenerife. If you have children or luggage, the first is more comfortable.
  • A cabin for the night: it is a crossing of a day and a half; a seat gets tiring, especially with children.
  • Book in advance if you travel with a car or in high season: there are few sailings a week.
  • With a pet, ask for a pet-friendly cabin from the start; places are limited.
  • In bad weather, the transfer is the delicate point: write to us with your booking reference if there are changes.
