Gran Canaria to Lanzarote Ferry: Shipping Lines, Cabin and Car
With Balearia · from 6 h
To get from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote by ferry you leave from the port of Las Palmas and arrive at Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. It is run by Baleària Canarias, which sails every day of the year.
It is a crossing of several hours, the longest between the central Canary Islands, and that is why the ship has cabins with a bathroom. You can travel overnight and wake up in Arrecife.
If you are looking for Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, there is no ferry from Gran Canaria: you arrive in Arrecife and continue by road.
Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry timetable
Below you can see the departures for your date. Baleària Canarias runs the route every day of the year, with a ship with cabins designed for the long crossing.
If you leave at lunchtime, expect to reach Arrecife in the late afternoon. With the overnight departure, you start the next day in Lanzarote. On Wednesdays the ferry company may add a second departure.
Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.
How long does the Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry take?
Several hours: it is one of the longest crossings between islands. That is why there are cabins and departures designed for sleeping on board. In the timetable you see the exact duration of each departure and which ship sails it.
Who runs the Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry
Baleària Canarias is the only operator of the ferry between Las Palmas and Arrecife. It is the former Naviera Armas line (now operated by Baleària).
Fred Olsen does not run this route: in Lanzarote it only has Playa Blanca, and from there it only sails to Corralejo (Fuerteventura). So between Gran Canaria and Lanzarote the choice is about date and accommodation, not ferry company.
What sets it apart from the other Canary Islands routes is the duration: it is one of the long crossings in the archipelago, and the ferry company provides cabins with a bathroom. Think of it as an overnight trip: spend the night on board if you choose a departure in that slot.
Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry price
The price above is the recent lowest for one adult. As it is a long crossing, the type of accommodation counts: standard seat, superior seat or cabin, and the VIP and Premium extras.
Premium includes a hot meal, priority boarding with a vehicle and a refund on cancellation; VIP, a separate lounge, a snack, a drink and a change of date or time. Compare what you need.
Resident discount on the Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry
Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the passenger fare between islands with Baleària. The discount does not apply to the vehicle, the pet or additional services, so the real saving on a trip with a car is smaller.
You can calculate your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on “Resident in the Canary Islands?” in the results search; the 75% applies to the passenger fare only.
- Residence is verified through an online system. If it fails, you need a valid certificate of residence and the identity document shown on it.
- More information in Canary Islands resident discount.
Large family discount on the Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry
Large families pay less on the passenger fare: 20% for the general category and 50% for the special one. Whether it can be combined with the resident discount is confirmed by Fred Olsen and Baleària in their help pages. Bring the card, in date. Guide: ferry with a large family discount.
Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry with a car
It carries cars, motorbikes, vans, caravans, motorhomes, bicycles and trailers (which are added to the car). You declare the vehicle with its dimensions when booking, and it cannot travel without a passenger.
During the crossing there is no access to the car deck: take up to your cabin whatever you will need for several hours (chargers, medication, a coat). If the car is a hire car, confirm with the company that it can be taken on board.
Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry with a dog
Baleària accepts pets with their own accommodation, which goes in the booking: Pet&You and Pet&You XL (a mat next to your seat), Pet Friendly seat (in a carrier), calm kennels (ventilated spaces, with video surveillance on some ships) and pet friendly cabin, where the dog sleeps with you.
You need the pet's boarding pass and a valid pet health card. It cannot stay in the car. Dogs leave the ship last. On such a long crossing, the pet friendly cabin is the most comfortable option. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.
On board: seat, cabin and food
There is a lobby, standard seats, superior seats and double, quadruple and connecting cabins, inside and outside, all with a bathroom. Cabins only exist on the ships that have them, so check the accommodation when choosing a departure.
There is also catering on board. For anyone who does not want a hotel night, the cabin replaces a booking and sets you up for the next day.

I Love Ferry tips for the Gran Canaria to Lanzarote ferry
- Choose between day and night according to your plan. The night departure saves you a hotel night, but needs a cabin.
- Cabin or seat. With children, a pet or a loaded car, the cabin saves a lot of tiredness; for one person travelling alone, a superior seat may be enough.
- Sea and wind. On a long crossing the weather counts for more. Baleària may change the time or ship, and notifies the mobile phone and email on the booking.
- Residents. calculate your price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by switching on “Resident in the Canary Islands?”; the car, pet and extras do not get a discount.
- Lanzarote without a car. The island is big; if you are not bringing a vehicle, consider hiring one on arrival.
