La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife Ferry: No Direct Sailing

With Balearia

There is no direct ferry from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Baleària Canarias and Fred Olsen ferries leave from Santa Cruz de La Palma and arrive at Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife.

Getting to Santa Cruz de Tenerife takes two steps: the ferry to Los Cristianos and then a good hour along the TF-1 by car, taxi or the ferry company's Ferry Bus.

If your destination is the north of Tenerife, allow for the whole day: ferry, disembarkation, transfer and, if you are flying, a safety margin.

La Palma to Tenerife ferry timetable

The timetable above is for the ferry that does exist: Santa Cruz de La Palma to Los Cristianos. Look at the arrival time, not the departure time, to plan what comes next.

There is no ferry timetable for the leg to Santa Cruz de Tenerife: it depends on your car, the taxi or the time of the Ferry Bus you have booked. Plan your departure from La Palma around what you have to do in the capital.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

How long does it take from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

A long day if the times do not line up. The ferry takes several hours and, once you arrive at Los Cristianos, there is still the road transfer of a good hour. Add waiting and disembarkation time.

If you arrive on the afternoon ferry and have to be in the capital that night, check the time of the last Ferry Bus before you buy.

To get from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife you take the ferry to Los Cristianos, and both ferry companies run it:

  • Baleària Canarias sails every day. Its Ferry Bus between Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz is free for passengers travelling without a vehicle on a combined ticket and is added under extras.
  • Fred Olsen Express has its own Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos. You have to add it when you buy (step 2), book it 48 hours ahead and arrive 15 minutes early.

Neither of the two has a ferry between La Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Price of the trip from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The price you see is for the ferry to Los Cristianos. The transfer to Santa Cruz is separate: free if you use your ferry company's Ferry Bus and there is a seat, and at the cost of fuel or a taxi if not.

If you travel with a car, you pay for the car in the ferry ticket. The resident discount applies only to the passenger fare.

Resident discount from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The 75% for Canary Islands residents applies to the ferry ticket to Los Cristianos. It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras, and the Ferry Bus gets no discount because it is already free. Residence is checked during the booking itself. Details: Canary Islands resident discount.

By car it is the most comfortable way: ferry to Los Cristianos and the TF-1 to the capital, a good hour if there is no traffic. The car is declared when you buy the La Palma ticket, with its dimensions.

You cannot go down to the car deck during the crossing. If you need something on the journey, take it up to your seat.

From La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife with a dog

On the ferry, Baleària and Fred Olsen have pet accommodation (with Baleària, a mat or carrier; with Fred Olsen, a carrier, kennel or sofa). But neither of the two Ferry Buses accepts pets: with a dog, the leg to Santa Cruz is by your own car, taxi or bus, according to the company's rules. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Departure from the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma

The ferry does not arrive at Santa Cruz but at Los Cristianos, in Arona, in the south of Tenerife. If the airport you are heading to is Tenerife Sur, you are already in the area; if you are going to Santa Cruz or to Tenerife Norte airport, you still have the transfer along the TF-1.

How to continue from Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

  • Own car: TF-1 to the capital, a good hour.
  • Your ferry company's Ferry Bus: free for its customers, with limited seats, it does not accept pets or electric scooters and, with Fred Olsen, it stops at the bus interchange.

I Love Ferry tips for travelling from La Palma to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

  • Do not look for a ferry to Santa Cruz. Buy the one to Los Cristianos and plan the transfer.
  • Book the Ferry Bus at the same time as the ticket. Seats are limited; with Fred Olsen, ask 48 hours ahead.
  • If the ferry is delayed, the Ferry Bus may leave without you. Fred Olsen moves you to the next service with seats available, with no liability for the connection; have a plan B (taxi or bus).
  • By car, the TF-1 rules. Avoid rush hour if you can.
  • One leg, one ticket. The ferry is bought separately from the transfer; confirm that they offer you the Ferry Bus for this journey.
