You can return with a car, motorbike, motorhome or van. In Olbia, Tirrenia asks you to be at the port 90 minutes early if you have a vehicle, and Grimaldi, 2 hours at the latest. With a car, only you at the wheel go in, and the other travellers board on foot.

I Love Ferry tips for Olbia to Civitavecchia
- Book the return at the same time as the outward trip: the end-of-August departure fills up.
- If you have a car, do not cut the boarding time fine: the cut-off is strict and the queue at the port of Olbia grows in summer.
- If you have a flight from Rome, do not count on the last-minute departure: a delay or a cancellation due to the sea leaves little margin.
- To really sleep, a cabin: deck passage on an eight-hour night is tiring.
