Palma Formentera ferry

The Palma Formentera ferry is the boat crossing that connects the islands of Mallorca and Formentera, in the Balearic Islands. This route has to be done in two stages, the first goes from Mallorca to Ibiza and the second from Ibiza to Formentera, with a change of ferry and, depending on the ferry operator, a possible change of dock.

 

Every day, there are at least three options to travel from Mallorca to Formentera. The ferry takes between 3 and a half to 5 hours depending on how long your stopover in Ibiza is and the type of ferry you take to Formentera (fast ferry or standard ferry).

The prices for the ferry from Palma to Formentera vary depending on whether you are a resident of the Balearic Islands or not.

Residents of the Balearic Islands:

  • The cheapest price: from 19.00 euros per person per journey, travelling by fast ferry from Palma to Ibiza and then by ferry from Ibiza to Formentera. For this option, both legs are with Balearia. The total travel time is 5 hours. There is a ferry change, but no port change (Botafoc dock).
  • The fastest option: from 32.50 euros per person per journey in a seat with Balearia. Both legs of the journey are by fast ferry, with a total travel time of 3 hours and 30 minutes. A ferry change and a port change are required (from Botafoc dock to Dalt Vila).
  • The option with Trasmed (Trasmediterránea) and Trasmapi (Formentera Lines): from 21.00 euros per person per journey in a seat. The total journey time is 5 hours, and you need to change company, ferry, and dock (from Botafoc to Dalt Vila).

 

Passengers who are not residents of the Balearic Islands:

  • The cheapest price is from 76.00 euros per journey with Balearia on the 5-hour option, connecting Mallorca and Ibiza by fast ferry and Ibiza to Formentera by ferry.
  • The option with Trasmed and Trasmapi, priced from 84.00 euros per person per journey in a seat. You will board the Trasmed ferry from Mallorca to Ibiza and the Trasmapi (Formentera Lines) fast ferry from Ibiza to Formentera. You will need to change ports in Ibiza.
  • The fastest option, taking only 3 hours and 30 minutes, costs from 128.00 euros per person per journey in a seat with Balearia. This connection is always by fast ferry, from departure in Mallorca to arrival in Formentera. In Ibiza, where there is a stopover, you need to change ferries and ports, moving from Botafoc to Dalt Vila.

The Mallorca Formentera ferry operated by Trasmediterránea

Trasmediterránea has become Trasmed in the Balearic Islands, a new company that belongs to Grimaldi Lines, a ferry operator that operates in the Mediterranean in countries like Italy, France, Spain, Malta, as well as Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.

Travelling with Trasmediterránea (now Trasmed) from Mallorca to Formentera involves taking the Trasmed ferry from Palma to Ibiza. Upon arrival in Ibiza, you will need to go to Dalt Vila to board the fast ferries of Trasmapi (or Formentera Lines) to make the crossing between Ibiza and Formentera.

Direct Palma Formentera ferry

No company operates a direct Palma to Formentera route. All current options to travel from Palma to Formentera by ferry involve a stopover in Ibiza, with a ferry change, and in some cases, a port change as well. In previous years, Balearia operated this route directly several days a week, but this year they have not resumed direct operations.

The options to travel from Palma to Formentera with a stopover are:

Palma Formentera schedules with Balearia:

  • Schedules for Balearia’s fast ferry. Palma 08:00 - Formentera 11:00. The departure time from Palma on the fast ferry Eleanor Roosevelt is at 08:00 in the morning, arriving in Ibiza at around 10:15. No port change is required for this option. The ferry departs Ibiza at 11:01 and arrives in Formentera at 11:30. The ferry Nixe usually handles this second leg. The total time for both journeys and the stopover is 3 hours and 30 minutes. If you want to make a day trip from Palma to Formentera, this is the recommended schedule.
  • Schedules for Balearia’s ferries. Palma 08:00 - Formentera 13:00. The departure time from Palma is at 08:00 on the Eleanor Roosevelt ferry, arriving in Ibiza at 10:15. You will need to change ports from Botafoc to the Santa Eulalia dock in Dalt Vila to board the Cap de Barbaria electric ferry to Formentera. The departure time for this ferry is usually 12:02, arriving in Formentera at 13:00. The total duration of this journey, combining fast ferry and electric fast ferry, is 5 hours.

 

Palma Formentera schedules with Trasmed - Trasmapi:

  • This journey involves two legs (Palma-Ibiza and Ibiza-Formentera), each operated by a different ferry company with different vessels. The Trasmed ferry departs from the Old Pier in Palma at 10:01 on the Ciudad de Barcelona ferry, arriving in Ibiza at around 13:45. After changing ports in Ibiza, you will travel with Trasmapi (some departures are under the Formentera Lines brand). The fast ferry departure time is usually around 14:45, and the arrival in Formentera is scheduled for 15:15. The total travel time, including the ferry and port changes, is approximately 5 hours.
