How long does the Puerto del Rosario Las Palmas ferry take?

Several hours: it is one of the long crossings in the archipelago. The timetable gives the duration of each departure. Expect to arrive in Gran Canaria in the early hours or in the morning, and to allow time for vehicles to disembark.

Only Baleària Canarias. It is a conventional ferry, with seats, upper seats and cabins, not a fast boat.

Fred Olsen has no line at Puerto del Rosario; its port in Fuerteventura for Gran Canaria is Morro Jable.

The Baleària Canarias line on this route came from the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària) and is today operated by Baleària Canarias.

Puerto del Rosario Las Palmas ferry with a car

It takes cars, motorbikes, vans, caravans, motorhomes and bicycles. Boarding with a vehicle closes about 40 minutes before. As the crossing is overnight and long, the car deck cannot be accessed: take chargers, medication and a warm layer up to your cabin.

If the car is a rental, confirm with the company beforehand that you can take it to another island.

Puerto del Rosario Las Palmas ferry with a dog

On a trip of several hours, the most comfortable option is the pet friendly cabin: your pet sleeps with you, with a water bowl and special cleaning. There is also a Pet&You mat next to your seat, a Pet Friendly seat with a carrier and calm kennels. You need the pet's boarding pass and health card. It cannot stay in the car and it disembarks last. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.

On board the overnight boat

There is a standard seat, an upper seat and double, four-berth and connecting cabins, inside and outside, all with a bathroom. There is food service on board. Cabins exist only on the ships that have them; check the accommodation when you choose the departure. With a cabin you sleep and arrive rested.

Boarding at Puerto del Rosario

Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura, on the east coast. From there there is a road to the airport and the rest of the island; Morro Jable is at the southern tip and Corralejo in the north, several dozen kilometres away. If you are coming from the south or the north of the island, allow for the road before boarding. We have no public transport data to the port.

With a car, arrive with a margin over the 40 minutes before boarding closes.

Arrival at the port of Las Palmas

You arrive at the port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Baleària has a free Ferry Bus on some departures, between the Nelson Mandela Quay / La Esfinge and the Fundación Puerto de Las Palmas Office; pets cannot use it. If you are continuing to Tenerife, the boat to Santa Cruz leaves from the same port.

Documents for the Puerto del Rosario Las Palmas ferry

Valid identity document for each passenger and, with a car, vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance. With a pet, an up-to-date health card.

I Love Ferry tips for the overnight boat to Las Palmas

  • Check that your date has a boat. It does not sail every day and, in the opposite direction, it sails on other days.
  • Cabin if you are sleeping, upper seat if not. The standard seat for a whole night is tiring.
  • Take up to your cabin what you need. Once under way the car deck cannot be accessed.
  • If you are coming from the north or the south of the island, allow for the road before boarding: Puerto del Rosario is far from Corralejo and Morro Jable.
  • For a day trip, the fast boat from Morro Jable is better.
