Valle Gran Rey La Gomera Ferry: Routes, Operators and Timetables
With Fred Olsen
Ferries leave Valle Gran Rey for the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera and the port of Playa de Santiago, both run by Fred. Olsen Express. They sail from the port of Vueltas, in the valley.

Canary Islands residents get a 75% discount on the passenger fare.

Who runs the La Gomera ferries
Fred. Olsen Express is the only ferry company with an internal circuit in La Gomera, using the small ship of its fleet, which links San Sebastián, Playa de Santiago and Valle Gran Rey. Baleària Canarias only operates San Sebastián–Los Cristianos.
Anyone arriving from Tenerife has to go through San Sebastián: there is no direct ferry from Los Cristianos to Playa de Santiago or Valle Gran Rey. Both ferry companies’ websites confirm this.
Valle Gran Rey La Gomera ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recently found for a non-resident adult without a vehicle. Each row in the table has its own: the leg changes the amount and the date hardly moves it, because there are few departures.
Canary Islands resident discount in La Gomera
Fred. Olsen’s 75% Canary resident discount is valid on the internal La Gomera route. On the passenger fare only, not on the car. It is verified through SARA; if it does not come up as verified, a certificate of residence from the town hall. More at Canary Islands resident discount.
You can calculate your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by turning on the “Resident in the Canary Islands?” switch in the results search; the 75% applies only to the passenger fare.
Large family discount
20% general and 50% special on the passenger fare, which can be combined with the resident discount. More at ferry with large family discount.
Valle Gran Rey La Gomera ferry with a dog
Fred. Olsen accepts pets with their own ticket and limited places. There is a carrier, a kennel with a camera on deck and a sofa with a lead, depending on the ship. Microchip compulsory. More at travelling by ferry with a dog.
Ports of Valle Gran Rey and La Gomera
Port of Valle Gran Rey
Port of Vueltas, in Valle Gran Rey: how to get there
The port of Vueltas is in the valley, in the south-west of La Gomera. You reach it by a winding mountain road with few buses: plan your arrival and do not leave the ferry to the last moment.
Arrival in San Sebastián or Playa de Santiago
The ferry to San Sebastián ends at the capital’s port, next to the centre, where the ferries to Tenerife leave from. The one to Playa de Santiago ends at a small port on the south coast.
Getting around La Gomera
From the valley, the ferry avoids a slow mountain road. To continue to other parts of the island, there are infrequent buses, taxis and hire cars. If you then have a ferry to Tenerife, allow for the time to the San Sebastián quay.
Documents for the La Gomera ferries
To board, an identity document is enough: a valid DNI, NIE or passport. Fred. Olsen works without check-in or a printed card, and the digital DNI is only valid if you show it from the MiDNI app; a screenshot is not accepted.
If you travel with a minor who has no document, the ferry company handles it as a “minor without ID”, with the guardian’s DNI, and the family record book is requested at boarding. With a resident or large family discount, also bring the document that proves it.
I Love Ferry tips for the Valle Gran Rey La Gomera ferry
- To return to Tenerife, the safe option is to sleep in San Sebastián beforehand if your ferry to Los Cristianos leaves early.
- There is no guaranteed connection between the island ferry and the Tenerife one if they are separate tickets.
- Check the return before buying the outward journey. With few departures, being left without a ferry is what complicates the plan most.
- Bad weather: enter a valid mobile and email; a normal ticket can be changed for a year.
