Denia to Formentera Ferry via Ibiza: Baleà ria, Permit and Rental

There is no direct ferry from Denia to Formentera: the journey calls at Ibiza, with Denia–Ibiza and Ibiza–Formentera. It is run only by Baleà ria and arrives at La Savina, the island's only port.

From 1 June to 30 September, bringing a car into Formentera needs a permit at formentera.eco. Renting at La Savina avoids the paperwork.

Below you can see the departures for the date you choose. Baleà ria has a departure to Formentera all year round, more frequent in summer. There is no direct ship: the journey calls at Ibiza. Check on each departure how long the stopover lasts and what time you reach La Savina. Outside summer, there is less on offer.

The return leaves La Savina for Denia: Formentera Denia ferry. With a car in the Formentera to Denia direction, Baleà ria asks you to arrive at least 60 minutes before.

Baleà ria, the only ferry company from Denia to Formentera
This route, via Ibiza, is run only by Baleà ria, normally with a fast ferry, the fastest ship in its fleet: standard, superior or VIP seat, cafeteria and children's area. It takes vehicles and pets.
If you prefer to choose each leg, you can book Denia–Ibiza with Baleà ria and the Ibiza–Formentera leg with Baleà ria or with Trasmapi.
Denia Formentera ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recent one for an adult without a car, with its date. It changes with the season, how far ahead you book and the vehicle. A single ferry company sets the price, so the differences come from the date and the fare: the Mini cannot be cancelled and the Reducida allows changes and refunds depending on how many days are left.
If you are travelling with a car but will only be there a few days, consider renting on the island as an alternative: it can work out cheaper than taking your own.
Balearic Islands resident discount
If you live in the Balearic Islands you get a 75% discount on the passenger ticket, not on the car or the pet. Say you are a resident in the search on iloveferry.com/ferris and bring your DNI or NIE with a certificate of residence. If someone on the booking is not a resident, make separate bookings. Large family discount
20% (general) or 50% (special) off the passenger fare, with a valid Spanish card, on domestic routes. It does not apply to the car. Bring the original card and legible photocopies. More in ferry with large family discount.
Denia Formentera ferry with a car
Baleà ria carries cars, motorbikes, vans and bicycles. Give the make and model when you book. From Denia, with a car, Baleà ria asks you to arrive at least 90 minutes before.
Permit to bring a vehicle in summer
From 1 June to 30 September, the Formentera government limits the entry of motor vehicles and a special permit is required, which is handled at formentera.eco. On that website you can check the status of the permit with the number plate. Outside those dates it is not needed.
Renting on the island
The alternative with no paperwork is to rent a car, motorbike or bicycle at La Savina. Baleà ria sells the ferry and the rental together with a company on the island: the rental is by the day, not 24 hours, and is collected at the offices in the port. You need a valid driving licence and a credit card, and there is a minimum age.
Electric motorbikes
Mopeds and 100% electric motorbikes travel free to Formentera from Denia. This does not apply to hybrids or cars. Mention it when you book.
Denia Formentera ferry with a dog
Baleà ria accepts dogs, on a lead or in a carrier, and they board and disembark last. Options: pet-friendly seat (up to 8 kg in a carrier, on some ships), pet-friendly cabin and a calm kennel on deck. How to get to the port of Denia and where to park
The ferry leaves from the Baleà ria terminal in the port of Denia, at the Moll de la Pansa, next to the city centre. Denia is about 100 km from Valencia and from Alicante. At the terminal there is a ticket office where you can collect boarding passes or ask questions, and a waiting area. From the centre, a free boat, the Panseta, crosses to the terminal.
Where to leave the car
There is a short-stay car park (P1, with a maximum of one hour) and two long-stay ones (P2 and P3). The first 45 minutes are free in all of them. You can reserve a space as an extra service when you buy your ticket, on the website, by phone or at the ticket office; in summer it is a good idea to do so.
Arriving at La Savina, the only port in Formentera
The ship arrives at La Savina, the only port in Formentera. There you will find public buses, car, motorbike and bicycle rental companies, and the offices of the rental that Baleà ria sells. If you are going to rent, do it in advance in summer.
Documents for boarding
Domestic route: valid DNI, NIE or passport. With a discount, certificate of residence or large family card. With a car, vehicle registration document, insurance and the Formentera permit if you travel in summer. If you rent there, bring your driving licence and a credit card.
