Two ferry companies reach El Hierro from Tenerife: Fred Olsen Express and Baleà ria Canarias. Both leave from Los Cristianos and arrive at Valverde.
Neither has a route from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to El Hierro. El Hierro has only one passenger port, in Valverde, at La Estaca.

Canary Islands residents get 75% on the inter-island passenger ticket, with both ferry companies. It does not apply to the vehicle, the pet or extras.

El Hierro Los Cristianos ferry with a car
Baleà ria accepts cars, motorbikes, vans, caravans and bicycles on this route. Fred Olsen accepts cars, large vehicles, motorbikes and bicycles.
On fast ferries you cannot access the vehicle during the crossing. With a rental car, check that the company lets you board it and take it to another island.
El Hierro Los Cristianos ferry with a dog
Both ferry companies accept pets, as long as they are on the booking. With Fred Olsen you need a microchip and you choose between Pet Carrier, Pet Room and Pet Sofa. With Baleà ria, a boarding pass and pet health record, with four types of accommodation.

It is the only port in El Hierro with passenger ships to Tenerife: the one at La Estaca, in Valverde. La Restinga is not listed by either ferry company.

Arriving at the port of Los Cristianos, in southern Tenerife
You arrive at Los Cristianos, in the municipality of Arona, next to Tenerife South airport, which is nearby. Ships to La Gomera and La Palma also leave from there.
If your destination is Santa Cruz de Tenerife or the north, allow a little over an hour by road on the TF-1.

A valid DNI, NIE or passport for each adult passenger. Fred Olsen does not use a paper boarding pass; with Baleà ria, tickets are in the app and in the email.

- Compare both ferry companies before choosing. They are not the same on pets, accommodation or changes.
- In strong wind, sailings may change. The conditions allow the ship, timetable or date to be changed, and the ferry company does not guarantee connections: do not cut it close to a flight at Tenerife South on the same day.
- With a car, arrive at the port with time to spare (40 minutes with a vehicle is the general rule for both ferry companies).
- With a resident discount, bring your DNI or NIE and, if the automatic verification fails, your certificate of residence.
