La Gomera to Playa de Santiago Ferry: Routes, Operators and Timetables

With Fred Olsen

There are two legs for getting to Playa de Santiago by ferry: from San Sebastián de La Gomera or from Valle Gran Rey. Both are run by Fred. Olsen Express, the only ferry company with an inter-island line on the island.

There is no direct ferry from Los Cristianos (Tenerife) to Playa de Santiago: you first get to San Sebastián with Fred. Olsen or Baleària and continue from there on the inter-island circuit.

Canary Islands residents get a 75% discount on the passenger fare, also on this circuit.

La Gomera Playa de Santiago ferry timetable

This page covers the two legs that end in Playa de Santiago.

Below this route table you can see the departures for the date you choose. If none leaves on your date, there is no ship on sale that day on that leg: change the date.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

Fred. Olsen Express is the only ferry company with an inter-island circuit in La Gomera, using the small ship of its fleet, which links San Sebastián, Playa de Santiago and Valle Gran Rey. Baleària Canarias only runs San Sebastián–Los Cristianos.

Anyone arriving from Tenerife has to go through San Sebastián: there is no direct ferry from Los Cristianos to Playa de Santiago or to Valle Gran Rey. The websites of both ferry companies confirm this.

La Gomera Playa de Santiago ferry price

The price you see above is the lowest recently found for a non-resident adult without a vehicle. Each row of the table has its own: the leg changes the amount and the date hardly moves it, because there are few departures.

Canary Islands resident discount in La Gomera

Fred. Olsen's 75% Canary Islands resident discount applies on the inter-island route of La Gomera. Only on the passenger fare, not on the car. It is verified through SARA; if it does not come up as verified, a certificate of residence from the town hall. More in Canary Islands resident discount.

You can calculate your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on «Resident in the Canary Islands?» in the results search; the 75% applies only to the passenger fare.

Large family discount

20% general and 50% special on the passenger fare, which can be combined with the resident discount. More in ferry with large family discount.

La Gomera Playa de Santiago ferry with a dog

Fred. Olsen accepts pets with their own ticket and limited spaces. There is a pet carrier, a kennel with a camera on deck and a sofa with a lead, depending on the ship. A microchip is compulsory. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of La Gomera and La Gomera (Playa de Santiago)

Port of La Gomera

Port of La Gomera

La Gomera

Departure ports: San Sebastián and Vueltas

San Sebastián de La Gomera is next to the centre of the capital and is the arrival port of the ferries from Tenerife. The port of Vueltas, in Valle Gran Rey, is in the southwest of the island, a long drive away on mountain roads.

Arriving at the port of Playa de Santiago

Playa de Santiago is a village on the south coast with a small port. From there you can continue by sea to Valle Gran Rey or go back to San Sebastián. Do not expect a wide range of services on arrival.

Getting around La Gomera

By road the island is mountainous, with bends and infrequent buses. If you do not have a car, the ship saves a good part of the journey to the south; with a car, consider whether it is worth taking it on board or hiring another one.

Documents for the La Gomera ferries

To board, an identity document is enough: a valid DNI, NIE or passport. Fred. Olsen works without check-in or a printed card, and the digital DNI is only valid if you show it from the MiDNI app; a screenshot is not accepted.

If you are travelling with a minor without a document, the ferry company handles it as a "minor without a document", with the guardian's DNI, and the family record book is requested at boarding. With a resident or large family discount, also bring the document that proves it.

I Love Ferry tips for the La Gomera Playa de Santiago ferry

  • Choose your leg according to where you are coming from. From the capital, San Sebastián–Playa de Santiago; from the valley, Valle Gran Rey–Playa de Santiago, which has few departures.
  • From Tenerife, it is two tickets. There is no guaranteed connection between them: leave a margin in San Sebastián.
  • Bad weather: give a valid mobile number and email when you book. A standard ticket can be changed for a year.
  • Car: it has not been verified that all departures on the inter-island circuit accept one.
