Playa de Santiago La Gomera Ferry: Routes, Operators and Timetables
With Fred Olsen
Ferries leave Playa de Santiago for San Sebastián de La Gomera and Valle Gran Rey, both run by Fred. Olsen Express. It is the only ferry company with a local route in La Gomera.
There is no direct ferry from Playa de Santiago to Los Cristianos, in Tenerife: to cross you must first go to San Sebastián and take the Fred. Olsen or Baleària ship from there.
Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the passenger fare.
Playa de Santiago La Gomera ferry timetable
This page covers the two legs that leave from Playa de Santiago.
Below this table of routes you can see the sailings for the date you choose. If none leaves on your date, there is no ship on sale on that leg that day: change the date.
There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:
Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.
Who runs the La Gomera ferries
Fred. Olsen Express is the only ferry company with an island circuit in La Gomera, using the small ship of its fleet, which links San Sebastián, Playa de Santiago and Valle Gran Rey. Baleària Canarias only runs San Sebastián–Los Cristianos.
Anyone arriving from Tenerife has to go through San Sebastián: there is no direct ferry from Los Cristianos to Playa de Santiago or to Valle Gran Rey. The websites of both ferry companies confirm this.
Playa de Santiago La Gomera ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest found recently for a non-resident adult without a vehicle. Each row of the table has its own: the leg changes the amount and the date hardly moves it, because there are few sailings.
Canary Islands resident discount in La Gomera
Fred. Olsen's 75% Canary Islands resident discount is valid on the island route in La Gomera. On the passenger fare only, not on the car. It is verified through SARA; if it does not come up as verified, a certificate of residence from the town hall. More in discount for residents of the Canary Islands.
You can calculate your resident price directly at I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on “Resident in the Canary Islands?” in the results search; the 75% applies to the passenger fare only.
Large family discount
20% general and 50% special on the passenger fare, which can be combined with the resident discount. More in ferry with large family discount.
Playa de Santiago La Gomera ferry with a dog
Fred. Olsen accepts pets with their own ticket and limited places. There is a carrier, a kennel with a camera on deck and a sofa with a lead, depending on the ship. Microchip compulsory. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.
Ports of Playa de Santiago and La Gomera
Port of Playa de Santiago
Port of Playa de Santiago: how to get there
The port is small and is in the village, on the south coast of La Gomera. Arrive in good time and be clear about how you are getting back: from here there are few sailings and few buses.
Arriving at San Sebastián or Valle Gran Rey
The leg to San Sebastián ends at the port of the capital, next to the centre, where the ferries to Tenerife leave from. The leg to Valle Gran Rey ends at Vueltas, in the south-west of the island.
Getting around La Gomera
Playa de Santiago is in the south of the island, and the road is a mountain road. To continue to other villages there are infrequent buses, taxis and hire cars. The ship to San Sebastián is a practical option if you then have a ferry to Tenerife.
Documents for the La Gomera ferries
To board, an identity document is enough: a valid DNI, NIE or passport. Fred. Olsen works without check-in or a printed card, and the digital DNI is only valid if you show it from the MiDNI app; a screenshot does not work.
If you travel with a minor without a document, the ferry company handles it as a "minor without a document", with the guardian's DNI, and the family record book is requested at boarding. With a resident or large family discount, also bring the document that proves it.
I Love Ferry tips for the Playa de Santiago La Gomera ferry
- If you are returning to Tenerife, go through San Sebastián. Leave a margin: there is no guaranteed connection between the island ship and the Los Cristianos one.

- Bad weather: the ferry company may change the ship, time or date. Enter a valid phone number and email.
