Tanger Med to Sète Ferry: GNV, Car and Documents

With GNV

To get from Tanger Med to Sète by ferry, the ferry company is GNV. Some sources also mention Baleària, which ran Nador–Sète in the past and no longer does; there is no record of it running Tanger Med today. It is the direct route from Morocco to the south of France, with about two nights at sea and a cabin.

It saves you driving across the whole of Spain. There are few sailings a week and they vary between sources: check your date in the search. If you take a car, the car deck is closed during the crossing.

If you have a Moroccan passport, you need a Schengen visa or a valid residence permit to enter France. On this line there are checks under the European Entry/Exit System.

For the customs and export procedure for a car leaving Morocco for France, the ferry companies' data say nothing more.

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

It is run by GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci), all year round and with more frequency from June to September. Some sources, such as Ulysse, also mention Baleària on Sète–Morocco. Baleària ran Nador–Sète in the past and no longer runs it (confirmed by ILF), and it can still be seen on the ferry company's websites such as ferrybalear.com or ferryibiza.es. There is no record of it running Tanger Med–Sète today: the search shows the ferry company that is on sale. GNV has cabins, seats, a pet cabin and a closed car deck.

Tanger Med to Sète ferry price

The price above is the lowest recent one for an adult. On a two-night crossing, what weighs most is the cabin (inside, outside or suite), the car and the date. In June, July, August and September GNV increases the frequency and there is more demand.

Children, minors and discounts

Minors have their own fare. Spanish national discounts do not apply on an international route. Children under 14 cannot travel alone; with only one parent, written authorisation from the other is needed. Those aged 14 to 18 can travel alone with written authorisation.

Tanger Med to Sète ferry with a car

Give the type, make and model when you search: the declared dimensions, roof rack included, must match those of the car or you may be charged the difference or refused boarding.

  • Original vehicle registration document and driving licence.
  • If the car is not yours, certified authorisation from the owner.
  • If it entered Morocco on temporary import, the same car must leave, and with the person who brought it.
  • The car deck is closed during the crossing.

For the procedure for taking a car registered in Morocco, or one belonging to a Moroccan resident abroad, out of Morocco, check with Moroccan customs. On arrival, French customs at Sète deal with passengers with cars.

Travelling from Tanger Med to Sète with a dog

With GNV, dogs and cats travel in a carrier or kennel, and there is a pet cabin with limited places; they must be included in the booking. To enter France, EU rules apply (microchip, passport or certificate, rabies vaccination). More in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Tanger Med and Sète

Arriving in Sète: port and customs

You arrive at the port of Sète, in the south of France, from where roads lead to Montpellier, Marseille or Barcelona. On disembarking, there are passport checks and French customs. GNV records data and biometrics of non-EU passengers with the European EES system on this line.

All passengers need a valid passport.

  • Your data and biometrics are recorded on entry to Schengen (EES).
  • If the police do not admit you because of inadequate documents, there is no refund.

If you have dual nationality
