Gran Canaria to La Gomera Ferry: How to Go without a Direct Ferry
With Balearia
There is no direct ferry from Gran Canaria to La Gomera. The journey is made on two ships, with a stopover in Tenerife: Las Palmas or Agaete to Santa Cruz, transfer to Los Cristianos, and Los Cristianos to San Sebastián de La Gomera.
Baleària Canarias sells it as a combined trip, in two tickets. Fred Olsen Express covers Agaete to Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos to La Gomera. The transfer between the two Tenerife ports is made by road or with the free Ferry Bus.
It is a long day's journey: we do not recommend going and returning on the same day. Leave early and book the two legs with time between them.
Gran Canaria La Gomera ferry timetable
There is no direct ferry between Gran Canaria and La Gomera: it is done with two ships, with Tenerife in between. You can see the timetables for each leg on their pages; search first for the leg with the least margin.
First, the ship from Gran Canaria to Santa Cruz de Tenerife; then, the transfer to Los Cristianos; and finally, the ship from Los Cristianos to San Sebastián de La Gomera. Always leave a wide margin between the first and the second ship: they are independent tickets.
There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:
Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.
How long does it take from Gran Canaria to La Gomera (San Sebastián)?
Allow a long day. Add up the two ships, the transfer between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos and the waits. Leaving early lets you arrive in daylight. We do not recommend a same-day round trip.
Who runs the Gran Canaria La Gomera journey
There is no direct line between Gran Canaria and La Gomera: the journey is made up of legs from two ferry companies.
- Baleària Canarias sells it as a "combined" trip: Las Palmas to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ferry Bus or car to Los Cristianos, and Los Cristianos to San Sebastián de La Gomera. They are two independent tickets.
- Fred Olsen Express runs Agaete to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Los Cristianos to San Sebastián de La Gomera. Its Ferry Bus connects Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos.
- Las Palmas Santa Cruz is Baleària; Agaete Santa Cruz is Fred Olsen. For the final leg, both ferry companies run it.
Gran Canaria La Gomera ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recent fare for one of the legs, not for the whole journey. The total cost is the sum of the two tickets: the one for Gran Canaria and Tenerife plus the one for Los Cristianos and La Gomera. Work out your resident price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by switching on "Resident in the Canary Islands?" on each one.
If you travel without a car, the free Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos is a way to save on the transfer; with a car, you drive it yourself.
Resident discount on the Gran Canaria La Gomera ferry
Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the inter-island passenger fare with Baleària. The discount does not apply to the vehicle, the pet or additional services, so the real saving on a trip with a car is smaller.
You can work out your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on "Resident in the Canary Islands?" in the results search; the 75% applies only to the passenger fare.
- Residence is verified through an electronic system. If it fails, you need a valid certificate of residence and the identity document shown on it.
- More information in Canary Islands resident discount.
Large family discount Gran Canaria La Gomera
Large families pay less on the passenger fare: 20% for the general category and 50% for the special one. Fred Olsen and Baleària confirm in their help pages that it can be combined with the resident discount. Bring your valid certificate. Guide: ferry with large family discount.
Gran Canaria La Gomera ferry with a car
A car is possible, with both ferry companies on both legs, but check that the car is carried on all of them: they are separate tickets. On the leg between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos you drive yourself, on the TF-1, with a good hour on the road.
A hire car is only useful if the company lets you take it between islands; ask before you book.
Gran Canaria La Gomera ferry with a dog
With a pet, the combined trip is more complicated: the Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos does not accept pets, neither Baleària's nor Fred Olsen's. With a dog, you have to make the Tenerife journey on your own, by car, taxi or bus.
On the ships, each ferry company has its own accommodation: Pet&You, Pet Friendly seats and Calm Kennels at Baleària; Pet Carrier, Pet Room and Pet Sofa at Fred Olsen. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.
On board on each leg
The legs between Tenerife and La Gomera are short and you travel in a seat. The leg between Gran Canaria and Tenerife is somewhat longer, with a cafeteria and lounges. There are no cabins on these legs.

Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos are on opposite sides of the island, a good hour apart on the TF-1. Without a car, Baleària and Fred Olsen offer a free Ferry Bus between the two ports, which you have to add when you buy, with limited places and no pets. With Fred Olsen it is booked at least 48 hours ahead.

A valid identity document (DNI, NIE or passport) for each passenger and each ticket. With a car, the vehicle registration document and insurance. With a discount, the proof. As they are separate tickets, bring the booking reference for each leg.
