La Palma to Agaete Ferry: No Direct Sailing, Here Is How to Return

There is no direct ferry from La Palma to Agaete. You return with a stopover in Tenerife: from Santa Cruz de La Palma to Los Cristianos, a transfer to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Fred Olsen Express to Agaete.
For the first leg there are two ferry companies, Fred Olsen and Baleà ria Canarias. For the last one, to Agaete, only Fred Olsen.
Before buying the first leg, look at the last departure from Santa Cruz to Agaete: it sets the latest time you can leave La Palma.
La Palma Agaete ferry timetable
There is no direct ship between Gran Canaria and La Palma: it is done with a stopover in Tenerife. You can see the timetables for each leg on their pages.
First, the ship from Santa Cruz de La Palma to Los Cristianos; then the transfer to Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and finally the ship from Santa Cruz to Agaete. Baleà ria Canarias offers it as a combined ticket with two tickets. For the long leg, look at the waiting time between ships.

Who runs the La Palma Agaete trip
Between Gran Canaria and La Palma there is no direct line in any ferry company's data. The journey is made up of legs:
- Baleà ria Canarias sells it as a combined ticket: Las Palmas to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ferry Bus or car to Los Cristianos, and Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma. They are two separate bookings; Baleà ria gives 8 h 45 min of journey, door to door and with the transfer.
- Fred Olsen Express runs Agaete to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma, with its Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos for those travelling in transit.
- Baleà ria does not use Agaete and Fred Olsen does not sail from Las Palmas to Tenerife: choose the port according to the ferry company.
La Palma Agaete ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recent one for a single leg, not for the whole trip. The total is the sum of the two tickets: Gran Canaria to Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos to La Palma.
If you travel without a car, the free Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos saves you the transfer; with a car, the TF-1 means a few more kilometres of fuel.
Resident discount on the La Palma Agaete ferry
If you live in the Canary Islands, the inter-island passenger ticket is 75% cheaper. The car and the pet pay the full fare.

Large family discount La Palma Agaete

La Palma Agaete ferry with a car
Going with a car is possible with both ferry companies, but check that it is carried on every leg: they are different tickets. Between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos you drive yourself, a good hour on the TF-1.
In La Palma a car is almost essential for seeing the island. If you are not taking one, hire one on arrival.
La Palma Agaete ferry with a dog
With a pet, the combined trip needs care: the Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos does not accept pets with either ferry company. Take the dog across yourself, by car, taxi or bus.

The ships from Los Cristianos to La Palma are fast ferries, with standard and superior seats and a cafeteria. Between Gran Canaria and Tenerife you also travel in a seat, with lounges. There are no cabins on this combination.

The port of Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital's. The ferry to Los Cristianos leaves from there, and it is the first leg of the return. Arrive with time to spare: both ferry companies close boarding before departure.
Arriving in Agaete
If you are returning to Agaete, the last ship arrives at the port of Las Nieves; Fred Olsen has a Ferry Bus to Las Palmas. From there, bus or taxi.
How to link the two ships in Tenerife
Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos are on opposite sides of Tenerife. Without a car, the free Ferry Bus from Baleà ria or Fred Olsen links them; you have to add it when you buy and spaces are limited. Fred Olsen asks you to book it at least 48 hours ahead and, if you arrive late, it moves you to the next journey. With a car, you drive yourself on the TF-1.
Documents for travelling La Palma Agaete
Valid ID (DNI, NIE or passport) for each passenger and each ticket. With a car, vehicle registration document and insurance. As the tickets are separate, bring the booking reference for each leg.

- Start from the end. The last departure from Santa Cruz to Agaete decides which ship to take in La Palma.
- A margin in Tenerife. They are independent tickets: if you reach Santa Cruz just in time, there will be no second chance until the next day.
