Nador to Almería Ferry: Baleària, GNV, Car and Documents

With Balearia · 4 to 6 daily departures · 5:15 hour - 9 hours

The Nador to Almería ferry is run by Baleària and GNV: they sail from the port of Nador (Beni Ansar) and arrive at the port of Almería. There are departures almost every day, by day and by night.

The previous page also mentioned a fast service and overnight crossings with a cabin. In the timetable you can see the duration of each departure and choose whether you prefer to arrive in daylight or sleep on board.

To enter the EU from Morocco you need a valid passport. If you are not an EU national, GNV also asks for a valid residence permit or a Schengen visa.

With a car, the one that leaves Morocco must be the same one that came in.

The route is run by two competing ferry companies: Baleària and GNV. The previous page also mentioned the Naviera Armas brand (now operated by Baleària): Baleària has bought almost all of Armas's routes, and if you see the Armas brand, it is sold at the same time and redirects to Baleària.

GNV lists this route as pet friendly and with confirmed trips for the whole summer season. Baleària has its own rules on cars and pets: you see them when you book.

Nador to Almería ferry price

The price above is the lowest recent fare for an adult without a car. Your price changes with:

  • The ferry company and the type of departure: fast, day or night.
  • The accommodation: seat or cabin.
  • The date: in summer, especially when returning to Europe, demand goes up.
  • The car: it is paid separately.

GNV advertises early booking discounts on its Morocco routes: see whether your departure has them.

Children, babies and discounts

Children and babies have their own fare: enter the age of each traveller. It is an international route, with no resident or large family discounts. Minors need their own passport and, if they are not travelling with both parents, written authorisation. GNV does not accept unaccompanied minors under 14.

Nador to Almería ferry with a car

All the ferry companies on this route accept cars. Enter the type, make and model when you search: the declared measurements must match those of the car, roof rack included, or boarding may charge you the difference or refuse you.

Before leaving Morocco

  • The car that leaves must be the one that came in: it is registered with Moroccan customs. If it does not match, there are problems on departure.
  • Bring the temporary import declaration (D16TER) that you filed on arrival and the car's papers.
  • Do not take Moroccan currency out of the country: it is forbidden.

In Almería there is no customs procedure for an EU car; travellers with a non-EU passport go through police control.

Travelling with a dog on the Nador Almería ferry

GNV accepts dogs and cats on the booking: the only indoor accommodation is the Amigos de cuatro patas cabin, with limited places; otherwise, an outdoor kennel. Bring a lead, health record and a muzzle if required. Baleària has its own policy; check it when you book. Travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Nador and Almería

How to get to the port of Nador (Beni Ansar)

The port is in Beni Ansar, a few kilometres from the city of Nador, in north-eastern Morocco. You go through Moroccan police and customs control before boarding. With a car, have everything ready in your hand: passports, boarding pass, car papers and D16TER.

During Operation Strait Crossing (Operación Paso del Estrecho), from mid-June to mid-September, traffic increases in both directions. Guides recommend avoiding weekends in July and August, and arriving at the port between an hour and a half and three hours early with a car, and between three quarters of an hour and an hour on foot. Car places are limited in summer.

Arriving at the port of Almería

The port of Almería is at the Ribera quay, in the city centre, with the train and bus stations a short distance away. By road, it connects with the A-7 towards Granada, Murcia and Málaga: it is a good gateway if you are heading to Murcia, Valencia or Catalonia.

Documents for travelling from Nador to Almería by ferry

You are returning to the EU: have everything in order before boarding.

If you travel with a Spanish (or EU) passport

  • Valid passport, with more than six months of validity. The DNI is not valid for entering Morocco.
  • No visa for tourism; maximum stay of 90 days per six-month period.

If you travel with a Moroccan passport or with dual nationality

  • Bring your valid Moroccan passport. If you also have Spanish or other EU nationality, bring both passports and show the relevant one at each checkpoint.
  • Which document Morocco requires from dual nationals and whether the national identity card is enough: check with the Moroccan consulate before booking.

If you are not from the EU and are returning to Europe

GNV states that non-EU passengers on international routes need a valid passport and a valid residence permit, or a Schengen visa. Anyone refused by the police because of inadequate documents gets no refund, according to GNV's conditions. For Baleària, confirm the exact document in its help section.

GNV warns that on this route the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) checks apply to non-EU travellers.

I Love Ferry tips for Nador Almería

  • Book the return at the same time as the outward trip: when returning to Europe in the second half of August and early September, it fills up sooner.
  • Choose the night crossing with a cabin if you are travelling with children or have a long drive after Almería.
  • Check your residence permit if you are not an EU national: without it, the police can refuse you boarding and there is no refund.
  • Same car there and back: the D16TER requires it.

Why book Nador Almería with I Love Ferry

  • You compare Baleària and GNV in the same search.
  • You enter your car, pet and the age of each traveller and see the final price.
  • You pay the ferry company's price and receive its booking reference; if there is a change, a member of the team will help you.
