Valencia to Algiers Ferry: Baleària, Car, Visa and Documents
With Balearia · 1 weekly departure · 15:30 hours
To get from Valencia to Algiers by ferry, the ferry company is Baleària. It leaves from the Valencia Maritime Terminal and arrives at the Gare Maritime in Algiers after an overnight crossing, with at least one departure a week.
It has seats, cabins and a car deck. Spanish citizens need an Algerian visa, which is requested at the consulate and is not issued at the border. Algerians travel with an Algerian passport or another document accepted by the ferry company.
GNV does not run any route to Algeria from Spain: its ships to Algiers leave from Sète, in France. From Spanish ports, Algeria is Baleària.
With a car, if you are going to export it, you must send the DAE document to Baleària before departure; if it is a travel car, you need the carte grise and insurance.

Who runs the Valencia to Algiers ferry
It is run by Baleària on a conventional ship (there is no high-speed service to Algeria), with seats, cabins and a car deck. It is the only ferry company on this route. GNV, which sells Sète–Algiers, does not leave from Spain. Baleària has its own rules for Algeria: stricter changes, fuel charge included and a different access time to the port of Algiers in winter and summer.
On changes: before the day of travel, only with a new fare; on the same day, with a penalty; after that, the ticket is lost.
Valencia to Algiers ferry price
The price above is the lowest recent one for an adult in a seat. Your price depends on:
- The accommodation: seat or cabin. With an overnight crossing, cabins sell out sooner in summer.
- The vehicle: car, van or export car, which has a separate procedure.
- The date: summer and holidays.
- The currency: if you book in dinars, penalties are paid in dinars.
Children, minors and discounts
Minors have their own fare: enter the age when you search. Resident and large family discounts apply to domestic routes and do not apply here. An Algerian minor needs parental authorisation and must leave with an Algerian passport; if they travel with only one parent or with another adult, bring the family record book or authorisation from the other parent.
Valencia to Algiers ferry with a car
Enter the type, make and model when you search to see the exact price. Baleària requires:
- A valid registration document; no car with a temporary registration plate or with a crossed-out carte grise is boarded.
- If you are not the owner: the original written authorisation, signed by the owner and by the person transporting the car, stamped by a notary, town hall or public body, and a copy of the identity document or passport of both.
- With more than three pieces of luggage per passenger or with goods: export DUA recommended. Anything that is not personal luggage is considered commercial goods.
If you are exporting the car
Book passenger and vehicle as usual. Once the booking is confirmed, send Baleària the DAE (export accompanying document, with the registration number and full chassis number) and the booking at least 6 hours before departure. In Valencia, arrive at the port at least 4 hours before.
Summer restrictions
Algeria's Ministry of Transport has banned boarding new export cars, or those less than three years old, in summer. The notice is renewed each season: check before booking.
Fuel charge on the return
When leaving Algeria with a car, the Algerian State charges the TCC. Baleària includes it in the ticket.
Travelling to Algeria with a dog from Valencia
Baleària accepts pets. Algeria requires a microchip, an animal passport with vaccinations, a rabies vaccination more than 30 days and less than one year old, and a veterinary certificate endorsed 48 hours before leaving Spain. There may also be quarantine. If anything is missing, entry is refused. More on travelling by ferry with a dog.
Ports of Valencia and Algiers
How to get to the Valencia Maritime Terminal
The ferry leaves from the Maritime Terminal at Moll de la Turia, well connected by metro and city bus. With a car, enter through the port access and follow the signs to Algeria. In Valencia, for exporting cars, the lead time is longer than for a travel car.
Arriving in Algiers: Gare Maritime and formalities
You arrive at the Gare Maritime in the port of Algiers, next to the centre of the capital. Baleària publishes opening hours for the Algiers terminal, which differ in winter and summer. In Algeria, customs formalities are done on the Algerian customs platform; if you carry goods or more than three pieces of luggage, declare them beforehand.
Documents: visa, Algerian passport and dual nationality
All passengers need a passport and a return ticket (Baleària requires it for Algeria).
If you are Spanish or another EU citizen
You need an Algerian visa, which is not issued at the border. Apply for it at least four weeks ahead and make sure it covers all the dates of the trip: Barcelona serves Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Navarre, the Basque Country, Cantabria and La Rioja; Alicante serves the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Murcia, Ceuta and Melilla; Madrid serves the rest. The DNI is not valid.
If you have an Algerian passport and live in Spain
- To enter Algeria, Baleària accepts an Algerian passport; a passport from another country together with an expired Algerian passport; or an Algerian biometric identity card. Without any of these, a laissez-passer from the Algerian consulate.
- Bring your valid Spanish residence permit. To return to Europe, Baleària checks on the European platform that you have a valid visa or authorisation and may refuse you boarding.
If you have dual nationality
Algeria considers you a full Algerian: you enter and leave with the Algerian passport. Your Spanish consular assistance in Algeria is limited.
I Love Ferry tips for the Valencia to Algiers ferry
