Valencia to Oran Ferry: Baleària, Car, Visa and Export

Valencia to Oran Ferry: Baleària, Car, Visa and Export

With Balearia · from 15 h

To get from Valencia to Oran by ferry, the ferry company is Baleària. It leaves from the Valencia Maritime Station and arrives at the port of Oran after an overnight crossing, with roughly one departure a week.

It has seats, cabins and a car deck. Spanish citizens need an Algerian visa; Algerians need an Algerian passport or another document accepted by the ferry company. A return ticket is required.

If you are exporting a car, send Baleària the DAE document before departure. The ban on exporting on Valencia–Mostaganem does not affect this route.

GNV does not sail from Spain to Algeria: from Spanish ports, this route is Baleària's.

It is run by Baleària, with seats, cabins and a car deck. It is the only option from Valencia: GNV has no routes to Algeria from Spain. In Algeria, Baleària has different access hours for the port of Oran in winter and summer, with four exception dates in the last published summer, and a stricter changes policy than on the rest of its routes.

Valencia to Oran ferry price

The price above is the lowest recent one for one adult in a seat. It depends on the accommodation, the vehicle (an export car has its own procedure), the date and whether it is one way or return, which is compulsory for Algeria. If you book in dinars, penalties are paid in dinars.

Children, minors and discounts

Children and babies have their own fare: give the age when you search. National discounts do not apply on an international route. An Algerian minor needs the father's authorisation and must leave on an Algerian passport.

Valencia to Oran ferry with a car

Give the type, make and model when you search.

  • Valid vehicle registration document; no provisional plate or struck-through carte grise.
  • If you are not the owner: an original authorisation signed by the owner and by the person moving the car, stamped by a notary, town hall or public body, and a copy of the identity documents.
  • More than three items of luggage per passenger or goods: export DUA recommended.

Exporting a car

Book passenger and vehicle. Once the booking is confirmed, send the DAE (with plate number, full chassis number and port of departure) and the booking to Baleària at least 6 hours before departure. In Valencia, report to the port at least 4 hours before with all the documentation. If you book in dinars with an export car included, the vehicle's boarding fee is included.

Summer restrictions in Oran

In summer, the Algerian Ministry of Transport has banned boarding in Oran for new export cars or those under three years old, and for vans or vehicles of more than seven seats carrying goods. Confirm whether this is repeated on your date.

Fuel charge on the return

On leaving Algeria with a car you pay the TCC, which is set by the Algerian State. Baleària includes it in the ticket.

Travelling to Oran with a dog from Valencia

Baleària accepts pets. Algeria requires a microchip, a pet passport with vaccinations, a rabies vaccination given more than 30 days and less than a year before, and a veterinary certificate endorsed 48 hours before leaving Spain. There may be quarantine. See travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Valencia and Oran

How to get to the Valencia Maritime Station

It leaves from the Maritime Station at the Moll de la Turia, with the metro and city buses nearby. For car exports, the lead time is longer than for a holiday car. For a holiday car, Baleària's general rule for this route is at least two hours.

Arriving at Oran: port and onward travel

You arrive at the port of Oran, in the city. You go through police and customs control. If you carry more than three items of luggage or goods, declare them according to Algerian customs rules. Baleària refers you to the Algerian customs platform for the formalities.

Documents: visa, Algerian passport and dual nationality

All passengers need a passport and a return ticket (Baleària requires it for Algeria).

If you are Spanish or another EU citizen

You need an Algerian visa, which is not issued at the border. Apply for it at least four weeks before and make sure it covers all the dates of the trip: Barcelona serves Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Navarre, the Basque Country, Cantabria and La Rioja; Alicante, the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Murcia, Ceuta and Melilla; Madrid, the rest. The DNI is not valid.

If you have an Algerian passport and live in Spain

  • To enter Algeria, Baleària accepts an Algerian passport; a passport from another country together with an expired Algerian passport; or an Algerian biometric identity card. With none of these, a laissez-passer from the Algerian consulate.
  • Bring your valid Spanish residence permit. To return to Europe Baleària checks with the European platform that you have a valid visa or authorisation and may refuse you boarding.

If you have dual nationality

Algeria considers you fully Algerian: you enter and leave on the Algerian passport. Your Spanish consular assistance in Algeria is limited.
