The ferry from Formentera to Ibiza sails from the port of La Savina, the only one in Formentera, and reaches Ibiza in under an hour. It is run by Baleà ria and Trasmapi, with departures throughout the day.
It is one of the routes with the most departures in the Balearic Islands. In high season and with a car, it is best to book in advance.
Residents of Formentera get an 89% discount on the passenger fare with Baleà ria; other Balearic residents get 75%. It does not apply to the car.

Formentera to Ibiza ferry timetable
In the timetable you see the departures for the date you choose, with the ferry company for each. There are departures from first thing in the morning and, in summer, until well into the early hours. Outside July and August the number of departures drops, and the last ones are brought forward.
A weekday, when many residents cross to work, study or see the doctor, is not the same as a weekend, when departures follow leisure and shopping more. If you have to reach an appointment in Ibiza, choose a departure earlier than the one you need and leave a margin.

How long does the ferry from Formentera to Ibiza take?
Less than an hour. The fast ferries are the quickest; conventional ferries take a little longer. In the timetable you see the duration of each departure.
Ferry companies on the Formentera Ibiza route
- Baleà ria: conventional ferries and fast ferries; takes vehicles and pets; boarding passes in the confirmation email, no check-in.
- Trasmapi: daily departures, a crossing of about 30 minutes, takes vehicles and pets free of charge; it warns of seasonal restrictions.

Formentera to Ibiza ferry price
The price above is the lowest recent fare for an adult without a car. The ticket changes with:
- The ferry company and type of ferry: not all departures cost the same on the same day.
- The season: August is the dearest.
- Resident status: it cuts the passenger fare a lot, but not the car.
- The car or motorbike, depending on size.
Resident discount in the Balearic Islands and in Formentera
If you live in Formentera you get an 89% discount on the passenger ticket with Baleà ria on this route. If you live on another Balearic island, 75%. It does not apply to the car, except with an authorised parking card.

- If you are a foreign resident in Formentera, at the ticket office they ask for your NIE with your address on the island or, if it does not appear, the certificate of registration (empadronamiento).
Large family discount
Large families get 20% (general category) or 50% (special category) off the passenger ticket, and not on the car. Bring the valid large family card and each traveller's ID.
Formentera to Ibiza ferry with a car
Baleà ria takes cars on this route; according to our sources, Trasmapi also takes vehicles. When booking, give the type of vehicle, the make and the model. With Baleà ria, arrive 30 minutes early if you have a car, and 15 if you are on foot.
- Ibiza in summer. Between 1 June and 30 September, cars arriving in Ibiza need authorisation from the Consell d'Eivissa. If you come from Formentera, you apply for the transit authorisation at ibizacircular.es, without a fee; residents of Formentera have a quota reserved each day.
- Motorbikes. On Ibiza–Formentera, Baleà ria takes motorbikes of 125 cc or less free of charge; say so when booking.
Formentera to Ibiza ferry with a dog
With Baleà ria, a dog of up to 8 kg in a carrier can travel with you in a pet friendly seat; the others go in a calm kennel. With Trasmapi, pets travel on a lead or in a carrier, free of charge, with a microchip and up-to-date vaccinations. Details in travelling by ferry with a dog.
On board: a short crossing
On a crossing of less than an hour you travel in a seat. With Baleà ria there is a cafeteria on board, and seats are assigned when you board. Bicycles are carried according to the ferry company's conditions; with Baleà ria, one per passenger.

Where to board in La Savina
La Savina is the only port in Formentera, in the north of the island. From there you have a bus to the beaches and to Sant Francesc, and car, motorbike and bike hire next to the terminal: the Migjorn Rent Motos office is in the port itself.
If you have a car in summer, check the status of your permit on formentera.eco only if you are going to enter the island; leaving does not need it.
Arriving in Ibiza: Botafoc and Nueva Ibiza
Ibiza has two ferry terminals, Botafoc and the Nueva Ibiza maritime station, and your ticket says which one you disembark at. Botafoc has free parking opposite the terminal, and a bus and taxi to the town. Baleà ria has a free shuttle between the two terminals for some foot-passenger connections.
If you are continuing to the airport, allow for the road journey from the port.
Documents you need to board
This is a domestic route: adults need a valid DNI, NIE or passport. With a car, the vehicle documents and insurance. If you have a resident or large family discount, bring the document that proves it.
