Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria Ferry: Ports, Shipping Lines and Booking

With Fred Olsen, Balearia

To get from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria by ferry you leave from Morro Jable, in the south of the island, or from Puerto del Rosario, the capital. In both cases you arrive at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

From Morro Jable the route is run by Baleària Canarias and Fred Olsen, with fast ships and daily departures. From Puerto del Rosario there is only an overnight Baleària ship, slower and with cabins.

From Corralejo, in the north, there is no ferry to Gran Canaria: the only ship from that port goes to Playa Blanca, in Lanzarote. To go to Gran Canaria you have to head south by road to Morro Jable.

Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry timetable

Below you can see the departures for your date, together and sorted by time. The first thing to decide is the port, because Fuerteventura has three and only two have a ship to Gran Canaria.

Morro Jable has the daytime departures, with two ferry companies. Puerto del Rosario has an overnight departure that does not sail every day of the week. If you search for "Fuerteventura" you see both options mixed together: always check the departure port before choosing.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

Baleària Canarias links Las Palmas with Morro Jable by fast ship and with Puerto del Rosario by an overnight ship with seats and cabins.

Fred Olsen runs only Las Palmas–Morro Jable. It has no line from Puerto del Rosario or from Corralejo.

So the real choice is this: if you leave from the south, you compare two ferry companies; if you leave from the capital, there is only one and it sails at night.

Baleària Canarias's line on this route came from the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària) and is today run by Baleària Canarias.

Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry price

The price you see above is the lowest recent one. It is not the same at the two ports: the fast ship from Morro Jable and the overnight ship from Puerto del Rosario are different services, with different accommodation.

On the overnight ship the price changes mostly depending on whether you choose a seat or a cabin. On the fast ship, the ferry company, the time and whether you take a car weigh more.

Canary Islands resident discount on the Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry

Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the fare between islands. It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras.

You can work out your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on "Resident in the Canary Islands?" in the results search; the 75% applies to the passenger fare only.

  • Residence is checked online; if that fails, a valid certificate of residence is needed.
  • More information in Canary Islands resident discount.

Large family on the Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry

With a valid large family title, the discount is 20% (general) or 50% (special) on the passenger fare, and it adds to the resident discount. Guide: ferry with large family discount.

Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry with a car

You can take a car on both lines. You declare it when booking, with its dimensions, and the car cannot travel without a passenger. With a car, boarding closes earlier than on foot, so arrive with time to spare.

If the car is a hire car, ask the company first whether it allows it to be taken to another island: many forbid it. Once on board you cannot access the car deck: take what you need up to the cabin.

Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry with a dog

Both ferry companies accept dogs, with different conditions. With Baleària it is included in the booking, with the pet's boarding card and health card, and you choose between Pet&You (a mat next to your seat), a Pet Friendly seat with a carrier, calm kennels or a pet friendly cabin. With Fred Olsen there is a carrier of up to 10 kg, an outside Pet Room with a camera or a Pet Sofa, and a microchip is required.

On the overnight ship from Puerto del Rosario, the pet friendly cabin is the most comfortable. More in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria (Las Palmas)

Which port in Fuerteventura to choose

Choose the port closest to where you are staying, not the one that seems most convenient on the map. Morro Jable is in the south, in Jandía; Puerto del Rosario is on the east coast, in the centre; Corralejo is in the north. Between Corralejo and Morro Jable there are about two hours by car, so it is not worth crossing the island just for a ferry company.

If you go by bus or taxi, confirm how to get to the port before setting off: we do not have the public transport timetables of each municipality.

Arrival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The ship docks at the port of Las Palmas, in the La Luz area. Baleària has a free Ferry Bus on some departures, between the Oficina de la Fundación Puerto de Las Palmas and the Muelle Nelson Mandela / La Esfinge. It does not accept pets.

Fred Olsen has another bus from Parque Santa Catalina, but it is the link with Agaete, not with Fuerteventura: do not count it as part of this route.

Documents for the Fuerteventura Gran Canaria ferry

To board, a valid identity document for each passenger is enough. With a car, vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance. With a discount, the large family title; residence is usually checked automatically, but bring your DNI or NIE.

I Love Ferry tips for going from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria

  • Look at the port, not the island name. Searching for "Fuerteventura" mixes Morro Jable and Puerto del Rosario; the first is fast and daytime, the second is overnight.
  • To come back the same day, choose Morro Jable. The overnight ship is no good for a day trip.
  • If there is a strong wind, the timetable or the ship may change. Leave a real mobile number and email in the booking: the ferry company notifies you there.
  • Changes. Fred Olsen lets you change the date, time and route up to a year after purchase on most fares; with Baleària it depends on the fare. If you bought with us, write to us and we will handle it.

See all the frequently asked questions >>
Is there a ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria?

Yes. Ships leave from Morro Jable (Baleària and Fred Olsen) and from Puerto del Rosario (Baleària, overnight), and all arrive at the port of Las Palmas.

Which port in Fuerteventura does the ferry to Gran Canaria leave from?

From Morro Jable, in the south, and from Puerto del Rosario, the capital. None leaves from Corralejo to Gran Canaria.

Which ferry company is better from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria?

It depends on the time and the car; there is no best one. At Morro Jable you compare Baleària and Fred Olsen by departure; at Puerto del Rosario there is only Baleària.

How long does the ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria take?

From Morro Jable, a little under two hours. From Puerto del Rosario it is an overnight journey of several hours. In the timetable you see the duration of each departure.

Can I take my car from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria?

Yes, on both lines. You declare it when booking with its dimensions and it cannot travel without a passenger.

What discount do Canary Islands residents get?

75% on the passenger fare, not on the car or the pet.

What do I do if the ferry is cancelled because of wind?

Write to us with your booking reference. The ferry company may change the timetable or the ship because of the weather and notifies you on the mobile and email of the booking. What you are entitled to (relocation to another departure or a refund, depending on the case) depends on the ferry company and the conditions of its contract; there is no guaranteed additional compensation if the sea prevents safe sailing.

Which port in Fuerteventura suits me best?

The closest to where you are staying. For a fast ship and daytime departures, Morro Jable; if you are in Puerto del Rosario and do not mind travelling at night, the overnight ship.

Can you go from Corralejo to Gran Canaria by ferry?

There is no direct line. From Corralejo the ferry only crosses to Playa Blanca, in Lanzarote; for Gran Canaria you have to go by road to Morro Jable or Puerto del Rosario.
