Gran Canaria to Huelva Ferry: The Mainland Line with Fred Olsen
With Fred Olsen
The ferry from Gran Canaria to Huelva is run by Fred Olsen. It leaves from the port of Las Palmas, not Agaete, and arrives at the port of Huelva, in Andalusia. There are sailings several times a week, not daily.
It is a crossing of more than a day with double or quadruple cabins on board. You can take a car, motorbike and pet, and residents of the Canary Islands get 75% off the passenger fare.
Baleària has no line to Huelva. If another Andalusian port suits you, its ship reaches Cádiz from Las Palmas.
Gran Canaria Huelva ferry timetable
The Huelva line is not daily: it sails several days a week and the days change by season. Check the departures for your date in the search and, if you are travelling with a car or in high season, book with time to spare because car spaces sell out before passenger ones.
From Huelva to Gran Canaria
The return has its own page: Huelva Gran Canaria ferry.
There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:
Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.
How long does the ferry from Gran Canaria to Huelva take?
More than a day on the ship. Official sources do not always give the same figure, so the duration of each sailing is the one shown in the search. Also allow for boarding time: with a car, you have to be at the port well before you would on a route between islands.
Who runs the ferry from Gran Canaria to Huelva
Only Fred Olsen links Las Palmas with Huelva. It is the only ship to Huelva from any island. Baleària, which took over the lines of the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària), does not operate in Huelva.
The Huelva ship is different from the trimarans Fred Olsen uses between islands: it is a vessel with cabins, built for a crossing of more than a day.
Gran Canaria Huelva ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recent fare for an adult without a vehicle. On this line the accommodation matters a lot: the cabin costs quite a bit more than the seat and is what changes the total most. The car is added separately.
An advantage the inter-island ships do not have: on the Huelva line all Fred Olsen fares allow a refund, according to its help centre.
Canary Islands resident discount: Gran Canaria Huelva
Residents of the Canary Islands get 75% off the passenger ticket between the Canary Islands and the rest of Spain. It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras such as the cabin.
- Work out your resident price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by switching on "Resident in the Canary Islands?".
- Fred Olsen verifies residence electronically with your DNI; if it is not verified, you need the certificate of residence from the town hall.
- More information in Canary Islands resident discount.
Ferry from Gran Canaria to the mainland with a large family
The regulations give 20% to a general large family and 50% to a special one on regular domestic sea transport. Fred Olsen asks you to validate the certificate in its customer area and it can be combined with the resident discount. More information in ferry with large family discount.
Gran Canaria Huelva ferry with a car
This line is designed for travelling with a vehicle: car, motorbike, van or motorhome. State the vehicle when you search. Fred Olsen counts as a car one up to five metres long and under 1.90 high; if yours is bigger, mark it as a large vehicle.
You cannot charge an electric car on board and, depending on the timetable and the weather, access to the car deck during the crossing may be closed. Take what you need with you to the cabin.
Gran Canaria Huelva ferry with a dog
Fred Olsen accepts dogs on the Huelva line in a pet-friendly cabin (up to two pets of up to 30 kg each) or in a kennel on deck. You must tell them when you buy, the pet place has its own ticket and is limited. A microchip is required. They cannot be left in the car and the Ferry Bus does not accept pets. Ports of Gran Canaria (Las Palmas) and Huelva
Port of Las Palmas de G.C.
Port of Huelva
How to get to the port of Las Palmas to go to Huelva
The ship leaves from the port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Note: the free Fred Olsen Ferry Bus that leaves from Parque de Santa Catalina goes to the port of Agaete and only serves the Tenerife sailings. For Huelva there is no Ferry Bus: you get there on your own, by car, taxi or bus.
With a car, allow for traffic on the GC-1 if you are coming from the south of the island.
Arrival in Huelva
The ship arrives at the port of Huelva, on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia. From there, Seville is less than a hundred kilometres away and the border with Portugal is even closer. We do not have the exact address of the terminal: use the one on your ticket.
Documents for the ferry from Gran Canaria to the mainland
It is a domestic route: a valid identity document is enough. Fred Olsen works without a printed boarding pass; the digital DNI is only valid through the MiDNI app, not with a screenshot. With a resident or large family discount, bring the document that proves it. With a car, the vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance.
If anyone travelling is a non-EU national, Fred Olsen recommends checking first with the Policía Nacional de Fronteras (National Police border control).
I Love Ferry tips for going from Gran Canaria to Huelva
- Check the sailing days before fixing your holiday: the line is not daily and that decides the rest of the trip.
- Cabin for the trip: it is at least a whole night at sea; with children or a pet, a bed is better.
- Arrive early with a car: boarding on the long line is earlier than between islands; the exact cut-off is on your ticket.
- If the weather is bad, the ferry company may change the time or date. Write to us with your booking reference: the ticket can be changed up to a year later, with a possible price difference.
- Residents: the 75% is for the passenger fare only; calculate car and cabin separately.
