How to travel by ferry from Mallorca to Formentera with Trasmediterránea?

The ferry company Trasmediterránea no longer operates in the Balearic Islands. Its routes and ships have been taken over by Trasmed, part of the Italian Grimaldi Lines group.

To travel with Trasmed (formerly Trasmediterránea) from Mallorca to Formentera, you can take the Trasmed ferry that operates the route between Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza. Once you arrive at Ibiza’s Botafoc pier, you can board one of Trasmapi’s fast ferries (or Formentera Lines), which covers the Ibiza-Formentera route in just half an hour.

Is there a direct ferry from Mallorca to Formentera?

At present, there is no ferry that travels directly from Palma de Mallorca to Formentera without stopping in Ibiza or changing ships. A few years ago, Balearia offered a direct connection during the summer months, but it has not been reinstated this year. The fastest options to travel by ferry from Mallorca to Formentera are with Balearia or Trasmed - Trasmapi, making a stop in Ibiza and changing ships.

Balearia ferry schedules from Mallorca to Formentera: Balearia offers two schedules for the Mallorca to Formentera route:

• Fast ferry from Mallorca to Formentera with Balearia. Departs at 08:00 from Palma and arrives in Formentera at 11:00 am. The departure time from Palma de Mallorca is 08:00 am, arriving in Ibiza at 10:15 am on the fast ferry Eleanor Roosevelt. Without leaving Botafoc pier, you must board the ferry at 11:01 am to arrive in Formentera at 11:30 am. This second leg of the trip is typically operated by the ferry Nixe. The total duration of this trip is 3 hours and 30 minutes. This schedule is ideal if you want to make a day trip to Formentera and return the same day.
• Ferry from Mallorca to Formentera with Balearia. Departs at 08:00 from Palma and arrives in Formentera at 13:00. The departure time from Palma is at 08:00 am on the ferry Eleanor Roosevelt, which arrives in Ibiza at 10:15 am. To board the electric ferry Cap de Barbaria, you need to switch piers and board before 12:02 pm, arriving in Formentera at 13:00 pm. The total duration of this journey is 5 hours.

Trasmed - Trasmapi ferry schedules from Mallorca to Formentera: the crossing departs at 10:01 am and arrives in Formentera at 15:15 pm.

• Mallorca to Formentera ferry with Trasmed and Trasmapi. The ferry usually departs from Palma’s Old Pier (Camí de l'escullera s/n) at 10:01 am on the ferry Ciudad de Barcelona, arriving in Ibiza at around 13:45 pm. In Ibiza, you must change ships and head to the Ibiza Dalt Vila pier. Here, you can board the ferry at 14:45 pm to reach La Savina port in Formentera by 15:15 pm. The total duration of this crossing, including the stop and ship change, is approximately 5 hours.
