La Palma to Huelva Ferry: No Direct Ship, How to Go via Tenerife

With Fred Olsen

There is no direct ferry from La Palma to Huelva. You first have to sail to Los Cristianos, cross by road to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and take the Fred Olsen ship to Huelva from there.

The ship to Huelva leaves Santa Cruz de Tenerife several times a week, not daily. The alternative is Baleària's combined journey to Cádiz and, from there, going by road to Huelva.

These are separate bookings: leave a margin between legs.

How to get from La Palma to Huelva: the legs

The Huelva line leaves from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and not from La Palma. Start by looking at the days when there is a ship to Huelva and work backwards:

  1. La Palma to Los Cristianos: a Baleària or Fred Olsen fast ferry, which arrives at the port in the south of Tenerife.
  2. Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de Tenerife: by road, around an hour on the TF-1.
  3. Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Huelva: the Fred Olsen ship, a crossing of more than a day.

Each leg is booked separately and the connection is your responsibility.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

How long does it take to get from La Palma to Huelva?

More than two days in total across ships, road and waits, because the Huelva ship is not daily. The duration of each leg appears in its search; the wait in Tenerife is whatever you decide.

There are two ferry companies. Fred Olsen runs the ship to Huelva from Santa Cruz de Tenerife; it is the only one that reaches Huelva. To get from La Palma to Tenerife, there are Baleària and Fred Olsen. If you were looking for the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària), its line to the mainland leaves from Cádiz, not Huelva.

Price of travelling from La Palma to Huelva

The price you see above is the lowest recent fare for an adult without a vehicle; on this route it is usually that of a single leg, not of the whole journey. Add the ship to Tenerife and the ship to Huelva. On the Huelva one, all Fred Olsen fares allow a refund, but on the inter-island leg it depends on the fare.

Canary Islands resident discount: La Palma Huelva

A Canary Islands resident gets 75% off the passenger fare on both ships. It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras such as the cabin.

  • Calculate your resident price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by turning on "Resident in the Canary Islands?".
  • It is verified online with your DNI; if that fails, a certificate of residence.
  • More information in Canary Islands resident discount.

From La Palma to Huelva with a large family

20% for the general category and 50% for the special one, on the passenger fare, with a valid card. Each ferry company asks for its own validation. More information in ferry with a large family discount.

From La Palma to Huelva with a car

You can take a car on both ships, but you have to check it on each booking. Between Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz you drive yourself: there is no Ferry Bus with a car. On the Huelva ship, the car deck is not open during the crossing and electric vehicles cannot be loaded.

From La Palma to Huelva with a dog

On the ship to Huelva, Fred Olsen offers a pet friendly cabin (up to two pets of 30 kg) or a kennel on deck; you say so when buying and a microchip is required. On the ship from La Palma to Tenerife, the conditions depend on the ferry company. The Ferry Buses do not accept pets. More information in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of La Palma (Santa Cruz de La Palma) and Huelva

How to get to the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma

The fast ferry leaves from the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, in the capital. With a car, work out the boarding cut-off with and without a vehicle, which appears on your ticket.

Arriving at the port of Huelva

The ship arrives at the port of Huelva, in the south-west of the mainland. We do not have the terminal address: use the one on your ticket.

The crossing from Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The La Palma ship arrives at Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, and the Huelva one leaves from Santa Cruz, in the north. There are a few kilometres of motorway in between: around an hour on the TF-1. Baleària's Ferry Bus between those ports is for combined tickets without a vehicle, and Fred Olsen's is for inter-island journeys and does not connect with the mainland. Neither accepts pets. The safest option is a car or taxi.

Documents for travelling from La Palma to Huelva

A valid DNI, NIE or passport on all legs. With a car, the vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance. For resident or large family, the relevant document.
