Only one ferry company runs the Valencia to Mahón (Maó) crossing: Trasmed. It leaves the port of Valencia and arrives at the port of Mahón, in Menorca, on an overnight crossing with a stopover on another island.
Frequency is very low, roughly weekly: check the calendar for your date before booking your holiday. If there is no ferry that day, you can go via Palma or via Barcelona, with more departures although in two legs.
It is a long crossing with a cabin, which takes cars and pets (in an adapted cabin, seat or kennels). Residents of the Balearic Islands get a resident discount on the passenger fare, not on the car.

How long does the ferry from Valencia to Mahón take?
It is one of the longest crossings between the mainland and the Balearic Islands: almost a whole day, because the ferry stops on another island before reaching Menorca. You can see the exact duration of your departure in the timetable. There is no fast ferry: it is a conventional ferry.
If your priority is to arrive sooner, compare it with going to Palma and crossing to Menorca, or with Barcelona: more legs, but fewer hours on board.
Trasmed, the only ferry company from Valencia to Mahón
Trasmed GLE, part of the Grimaldi group and heir to the former Trasmediterránea in the Balearic Islands, runs this line with conventional ferries, designed for long, overnight trips. What you need to know:
- Luggage: no weight limit (only what you can carry on in one go).
- Pets: adapted cabin, seat (under 8 kg, in a carrier) or kennels. Bring the health card up to date.
- Its own discounts for Balearic residents, large families, military personnel and groups.
- Car: state the exact type and dimensions when booking.
Baleà ria and GNV have no departure from Valencia to Mahón. Baleà ria reaches Menorca via Ciutadella, from Barcelona and from Alcudia.
Valencia to Mahón ferry price
The price you see above is the lowest recent price for an adult without a car, with its date. As there is only one ferry company, the comparison lies in the accommodation and in the alternatives:
- Seat or cabin: on such a long, overnight crossing, look at the cabin price when searching, not just the seat price.
- The car: it is paid separately from the driver and depends on its exact dimensions.
- Going via Palma or Barcelona: more legs, but more dates; add up the two tickets before deciding.
- Changes: with Trasmed, changing the ticket at the port itself costs money.
Balearic resident discount

Large family discount
On domestic routes, the Spanish certificate gives 20% (general) or 50% (special) off the fare. Trasmed publishes a discount for large families; confirm the percentage when booking. Valencia to Mahón ferry with a car
Trasmed takes cars, motorbikes, vans and motorhomes. State the type and exact dimensions when booking: the price depends on them and changing the ticket at the port costs money. With so many hours at sea, the car deck is not accessible: take medication, documents, charger and a change of clothes to the cabin.
In Valencia, the port is commercial and cars that are not boarding cannot stay. In Mahón there is no car restriction in our data; if you then continue to Ibiza or Formentera in summer, check their permits.

How to get to the port of Valencia
Trasmed boards at its passenger terminal on the Poniente quay, in the port of Valencia. It is a commercial port, separate from the city centre. When entering with a car there are customs arches; vehicles that are not boarding cannot stay and you cannot park for long in front of the terminal. Check the terminal on your ticket before you go.
Arriving in Mahón: the port is in the town
The port of Mahón (Maó) is inside the town: the historic centre is a few minutes' walk away. The airport is about 6 km away. If you are staying in the west, Ciutadella is about 45 km by road; there is no train, only bus and rental car.
