Barcelona to Palma Ferry: Baleària, Trasmed, GNV, Car and Cabin

Barcelona to Palma Ferry: Baleària, Trasmed, GNV, Car and Cabin

With Balearia, Trasmed · 10 to 14 weekly departures · 6:45 hours - 8:30 hours

To get from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca by ferry you can choose between three ferry companies: Baleària, Trasmed and GNV. All of them leave from the port of Barcelona and arrive at the port of Palma, next to the city centre.

Departures to Palma are overnight and with a cabin: you board in the afternoon or evening and disembark in the morning. Compare the three in the timetable for your date.

If your destination is the north of Mallorca, see Barcelona to Alcudia, about 55 km from Palma.

Residents of the Balearic Islands get a 75% discount on the passenger fare, not on the car.

Barcelona to Palma ferry timetable

Below you can see the departures for the date you choose, with departure and arrival times. Three ferry companies compete on this route, so there will be several departures at night: the practical difference is in the time you leave Barcelona and arrive in Palma, and in the boarding terminal.

If you arrive in Palma in the morning, bear in mind the disembarkation time: the ship docks early. So that you do not have to leave your cabin in the small hours, Baleària offers a late disembarkation service on this route, at an additional cost.

Return

The return leaves from Palma for Barcelona. See its departures on the Palma Barcelona ferry page.

In the search you can see which ferry company runs each departure. The cheapest is not always the one that suits you best if you travel with a pet or with a lot of luggage.

Barcelona to Palma ferry price

The price shown above is the lowest recent fare for an adult without a car, with its date. With three ferry companies, the base price of a seat is similar, and what changes most is the cabin and the car. What makes the ticket go up is:

  • The date: July, August and long weekends are dearer.
  • The accommodation: seat or cabin, and within the cabin, inside, outside, double or quadruple.
  • The car: it is paid separately from the driver and depends on its dimensions.
  • The ferry company's fare: on Baleària, the Mini cannot be cancelled and the Reducida allows changes without a penalty.

Compare the outbound and return separately: you can go with one ferry company and return with another.

Balearic resident discount

If you live in the Balearic Islands you get a resident discount on the passenger ticket (according to each ferry company's resident fare; check in the search) with Baleària, Trasmed and GNV. It does not apply to the car, pets or extras.

  • Say you are a resident in the search on iloveferry.com/ferris.
  • Take your DNI or NIE and your certificate of residence.
  • All passengers on the booking must be residents; if not, make separate bookings.
  • GNV has its own page with the documents for residents.
  • More at Balearic resident discount.

Large family discount

20% in the general category and 50% in the special category on the passenger fare, with a valid Spanish card and only on domestic routes like this one. It does not apply to the car. More at ferry large family discount.

Barcelona to Palma ferry with a car

All three ferry companies carry cars, motorbikes, vans and motorhomes. Enter the type of vehicle, make and model when you search, and write exact dimensions if your vehicle is large. On the ship, the car stays in the garage and cannot be accessed during the crossing; take what you need with you.

With Baleària, cars for Palma board at an adjoining quay, different from the North Terminal, and the location is confirmed hours before. With GNV and Trasmed, boarding is at the San Beltrán quay, according to the current listing. In all cases, the port of Barcelona is a Low Emission Zone: check your label.

Baleària asks you to arrive at least 90 minutes early with a car; Trasmed says 60 minutes early with a vehicle and 30 on foot; GNV sets the time on your ticket.

Barcelona to Palma ferry with a dog

All three ferry companies accept pets, but with very different rules:

  • Baleària: pet friendly seat (up to 8 kg in a carrier), pet friendly cabin and calm kennel.
  • GNV: pet friendly cabins; pets on outdoor decks on a lead and muzzled where applicable.
  • Trasmed: adapted cabins, seat (under 8 kg, in a carrier) and kennels.

If your dog is big and you want to sleep with it, look at the pet friendly cabins. It can never stay in the car. More at travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca

Getting to the port of Barcelona

There are two boarding areas. Baleària uses the North Terminal, next to the World Trade Center, and GNV and Trasmed the San Beltrán quay, in the Maritime Station area. There is a metro (Drassanes for San Beltrán), taxis and, free of charge, the port shuttle bus. Check the terminal on your ticket before leaving home.

Arriving in Palma

The port of Palma is next to the old town, a few minutes' walk or taxi ride. Buses to the island leave from here and there is car hire. If your destination is in the north, Alcudia is about 55 km by road and there is no train.

Documents for boarding

Domestic route: a valid DNI, NIE or passport. With a discount, a certificate of residence or large family card. GNV accepts children under 14 travelling to the Balearic Islands with the family book. With a car, the vehicle registration document and insurance.

I Love Ferry tips for Barcelona to Palma

  1. Book a cabin. It is a night at sea and the price difference with a seat is usually worth it.
  2. Check the terminal. Baleària boards in one place and GNV and Trasmed in another; if you get it wrong, you miss the ship.
  3. Compare ferry companies by their rules, not just by price. Pets and luggage vary a lot.
  4. If you take a car, note the low emission zone. Check your label before entering the port.
  5. Give a valid mobile number. Baleària sends changes and cancellations by WhatsApp or SMS, and offers alternatives on any fare.
