Fuerteventura to La Palma Ferry: How to Go from One Island to the Other
With Balearia
There is no direct ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma. Baleària Canarias sells it as two tickets with a stop in Tenerife: Morro Jable–Santa Cruz de Tenerife (with a stop in Las Palmas) and Los Cristianos–Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Between the two tickets you have to get from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Los Cristianos: the free Ferry Bus, which is added under "Extras", is only for passengers without a car. They are booked separately and you adapt the timetables yourself.
It is a long journey, of more than a day with the waits. If you are in a hurry, always compare with the plane.
Fuerteventura La Palma ferry timetable
There is no single timetable here. Baleària Canarias sells the trip as two tickets with a stop in Tenerife, booked separately: you adapt the timetables of one and the other. Look at each leg separately.
Start with the last leg: the departure from Los Cristianos to La Palma, and work backwards to see which earlier ship fits. That way you avoid reaching Tenerife with the ship already missed.
There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:
Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.
Who runs each leg from Fuerteventura to La Palma
Baleària Canarias runs Morro Jable–Las Palmas, Las Palmas–Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Los Cristianos–Santa Cruz de La Palma, and sells the trip as two tickets with a stop in Tenerife (Fuerteventura–Tenerife and Tenerife–La Palma), not as a direct trip.
Fred Olsen runs Morro Jable–Las Palmas and Los Cristianos–Santa Cruz de La Palma. There is no Fred Olsen line that links Fuerteventura with La Palma directly.
The Baleària Canarias lines that make up this trip came from the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària) and are today run by Baleària Canarias.
Fuerteventura La Palma ferry price
There is no single price. The one you see above corresponds to whatever the search finds for that date. If you put the trip together leg by leg, each ticket is paid separately and the total is the sum, plus the car if you take it on all the ships.
Canary Islands resident discount for this trip
Residents of the Canary Islands get a 75% discount on the fare on each leg between islands, never on the car. More in Canary Islands resident discount.
You can work out your resident price directly on I Love Ferry, at iloveferry.com/ferris, by switching on "Resident in the Canary Islands?" in the results search; the 75% applies to the passenger fare only.
By car from Fuerteventura to La Palma
With a car the trip gets complicated: the car has to board on every leg, and in Tenerife you have to drive from Santa Cruz to Los Cristianos, because the free Ferry Bus is only for foot passengers. If the car is a hire car, check with the company that it can travel to other islands. A car cannot travel without a passenger.
Fuerteventura La Palma ferry with a dog
It is a long trip for a dog. The two Ferry Buses in Tenerife do not accept pets, so you would have to go by car or taxi between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos. On the ships, Baleària offers a pet friendly cabin on lines with cabins, and Fred Olsen, Pet Room and Pet Sofa. See travelling by ferry with a dog.
Ports of Fuerteventura and La Palma (Santa Cruz de La Palma)
Port of Pto. del Rosario
Port of La Palma
Leaving Fuerteventura: Morro Jable or Puerto del Rosario
For the chain via Gran Canaria, leave from Morro Jable, in the south: it is the port with a fast ship to Las Palmas. Puerto del Rosario, the capital, only has the overnight ship to Las Palmas.
Arriving in Santa Cruz de La Palma
The ship docks at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, in the island's capital. The fast ships from Tenerife leave from Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, not from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is the most common mistake: arriving at the wrong port in Tenerife.
How to get from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Los Cristianos
The two ports are a good hour apart by road. If you travel without a car, Baleària has a free Ferry Bus between them for combined tickets, which is added under "Extras", with places per departure and no pets. Fred Olsen has its own, also free but to be added, with limited places and booking at least 48 hours ahead.
Documents for going from Fuerteventura to La Palma
A valid identity document for each passenger (DNI, NIE or passport), on each leg. With a car, vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance. With a discount, the large family title or the residence verification.
I Love Ferry tips for going from Fuerteventura to La Palma
- Do not buy all the tickets at once. Fix the ship from Los Cristianos to La Palma first and look for the earlier one that arrives with time to spare.
- Leave time in Tenerife. The ports of Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos are not next to each other and, if a leg is cancelled because of wind, the next ticket does not move by itself.
- Taking a car multiplies the risk. If you are going for a few days, consider hiring one in La Palma.
- If the trip is urgent, compare it with the plane; the ship is not the fastest way.
