Huelva to La Palma Ferry: No Direct Boat, How to Go via Tenerife

With Fred Olsen

There is no direct ferry from Huelva to La Palma. You have to sail with Fred Olsen from Huelva to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, drive across to Los Cristianos and take the ferry from there to Santa Cruz de La Palma.

The Huelva ferry sails several times a week, not daily. They are separate bookings: leave a margin between one leg and the next and stay overnight in Tenerife.

The alternative is Baleària's combined ticket from Cádiz, which reaches La Palma with a change of port in Tenerife. You get from Huelva to Cádiz by road.

Residents of the Canary Islands get 75% off the passenger fare.

How to get from Huelva to La Palma: the legs

The Huelva line goes to Tenerife, not to La Palma. Start by checking the days when there is a ferry from Huelva and work out the rest from there:

  1. Huelva to Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Fred Olsen ferry, with a cabin and a crossing of more than a day.
  2. Santa Cruz to Los Cristianos: by road, around an hour on the TF-1. With the free Ferry Bus if you are on foot.
  3. Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma: fast ferry, with Baleària or Fred Olsen, daily.

Each leg is booked separately and the connection is your responsibility.

From La Palma to Huelva

For the return, see the La Palma Huelva ferry page.

There are no departures scheduled on this route in the coming days. You can travel on these routes:

Indicative schedules and subject to variation by the ferry company for operational reasons without prior notice.

How long does it take to get from Huelva to La Palma?

More than two days between ferries, road and waiting, because the Huelva ferry is not daily. The duration of each leg appears in your search; the wait in Tenerife is whatever you decide.

There are two ferry companies. Fred Olsen runs the Huelva ferry and is the only one that goes there. To get from Tenerife to La Palma there are Baleària and Fred Olsen, both from Los Cristianos.

If you were looking for the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària), its line to the mainland leaves from Cádiz, not Huelva. Baleària has no routes from Huelva.

Price of getting from Huelva to La Palma

The total price adds up the two ferries. On the Huelva ferry, the accommodation (double or quadruple cabin, inside or outside) and the car, if you take one, make the difference. On the La Palma ferry, the crossing is short and the price is moderate. On the Huelva line, all Fred Olsen fares allow a refund; on the La Palma leg it depends on the fare.

Canary Islands resident discount: Huelva La Palma

A Canary Islands resident gets 75% off the passenger fare on both ferries. It does not apply to the car, the pet or extras such as the cabin.

  • Calculate your resident price on I Love Ferry (iloveferry.com/ferris) by switching on «Resident in the Canary Islands?».
  • Residence is checked online with your DNI; if that fails, a certificate of residence.
  • More information in Canary Islands resident discount.

From Huelva to La Palma with a large family

A general large family gets 20% and a special large family 50% off the passenger fare, with a valid certificate. Each ferry company asks for its own validation. More information in ferry with large family discount.

From Huelva to La Palma with a car

You can take your car on both ferries; check this on each booking. Between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos you drive yourself: the Ferry Bus is for foot passengers. On the Huelva ferry, access to the car deck depends on the timetable and the weather, and electric vehicles cannot be loaded. With a car, arrive in Huelva between one and two hours before departure, preferably two.

If it is a rental car, ask the company whether it can leave the island.

From Huelva to La Palma with a dog

On the Huelva ferry, Fred Olsen offers a pet friendly cabin (up to two pets of 30 kg) or a Pet Room; you tell them when you buy, the pet's ticket is separate and a microchip is required. On the La Palma ferry, the conditions depend on the ferry company. The Ferry Bus does not accept pets. More information in travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Huelva and La Palma (Santa Cruz de La Palma)

How to get to the port of Huelva

The ferry leaves from the port of Huelva. We do not have enough data on the terminal: use the one on your ticket. Fred Olsen does not use a printed boarding pass, just your identity document. With a car, arrive between one and two hours before departure; on foot, one hour.

Arriving at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma

The fast ferry arrives at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, in the island's capital. From there you continue on foot through the centre or by road to the rest of the island; with a car, allow for the boarding cut-off for the return.

Getting from Santa Cruz to Los Cristianos in Tenerife

The Huelva ferry arrives at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the north, and the La Palma ferry leaves from Los Cristianos, in the south. There are a few kilometres of motorway in between: around an hour on the TF-1. Fred Olsen's Ferry Bus between Santa Cruz and Los Cristianos is free, with limited seats and a supplement that is added when you buy. It does not accept pets or carry cars. If it arrives late, the ferry company moves you to the next one. With a car or a pet, the safest option is to go on your own.

Documents for getting from Huelva to La Palma

A valid DNI, NIE or passport on every leg; Fred Olsen does not use a printed pass. With a car, vehicle registration document, technical data sheet and insurance. For a resident or large family discount, the corresponding document.

If you are not an EU citizen, ask the Policía Nacional border police what you need for the Huelva line.
