The ferry from Ibiza to Formentera reaches La Savina, the island's only port, in under an hour. It is run by Baleà ria and Trasmapi, with frequent departures throughout the day.
You can travel on foot, with a motorbike or with a car. Between 1 June and 30 September, a car needs a Formentera.eco permit; hiring one in La Savina saves you the paperwork.
Residents of the Balearic Islands get a 75% discount on the passenger fare, and residents of Formentera get 89%, with Baleà ria.

How long does the ferry from Ibiza to Formentera take?

Ibiza to Formentera ferry companies
- Baleà ria: fast and conventional ferries; cars, motorbikes, bikes and pets; boarding passes attached to the confirmation email, no check-in.
- Trasmapi: daily departures of about 30 minutes; vehicles accepted; pets travel free on a lead or in a carrier.

Ibiza to Formentera ferry price
The price above is the lowest recent fare for one adult without a car. It changes with the ferry company, the type of ship, the season (August is the most expensive) and the time. If you are coming back the same day, look at the outward and return journeys together. The resident discount reduces the passenger fare, not the car or the pet.
Discount for residents of the Balearic Islands and Formentera
If you live in the Balearic Islands you get a 75% discount on the passenger ticket with Baleà ria; if you live in Formentera, 89%. It does not apply to the car.

Large family discount
Large families get 20% (general) or 50% (special) off the passenger ticket, but not off the car. Bring the valid family card and each traveller's ID.
Ibiza to Formentera ferry with a car
Baleà ria carries cars on this route; according to our sources, so does Trasmapi. With Baleà ria, arrive 30 minutes early if you have a car. When booking, state the vehicle type, make and model.
- Formentera.eco. The Formentera Island Council limits the entry of motor vehicles from 1 June to 30 September. You need to apply for a permit at formentera.eco, where you can also check its status by number plate.
- No permit. If you would rather not do the paperwork, hire a car or motorbike in Formentera: Baleà ria offers hire with Migjorn Rent Motos at the offices in the port of La Savina.
- Motorbikes. Those up to 125 cc travel free; state this when booking. To Formentera, 100% electric ones travel free too.
Ibiza to Formentera ferry with a dog
You can travel with a dog. With Baleà ria, in a pet-friendly seat if it weighs up to 8 kg including the carrier, or in a calm kennel; with Trasmapi, free, on a lead or in a carrier. On board: a short crossing
You travel in a seat and for a short time. With Baleà ria there is a cafeteria and you can bring your bike, one per passenger. The luggage you carry yourself without a vehicle is included.

Where to board in Ibiza
Ibiza has two ferry terminals, Botafoc and the New Ibiza Ferry Terminal (Estación MarÃtima Nueva Ibiza); your ticket says which one you sail from. Botafoc has free parking in front of the terminal and a bus and taxi to the town. If you have arrived in Ibiza with a car, take it to boarding in the time shown on your ticket.
Arriving in Formentera: La Savina
La Savina is Formentera's only port, in the north of the island. Next to the terminal there are car, motorbike and bike hire and bus stops for the beaches. The hire offices at the port hand over the vehicle for one day by default, not for 24 hours. If you are staying longer, tell them when you book.
Getting around Formentera without a car
Buses to the beaches and towns leave from La Savina. If you hire a car, motorbike or bike at the port, bear in mind the conditions: bikes must have a lock and electric ones are returned with a charged battery. If you hire with your ferry booking, it is ready when you arrive.
Documents needed to board
It is a domestic route: a valid DNI, NIE or passport for adults. With a car, the vehicle documents and insurance. With a discount, the document that proves it.
