Oran to Almería Ferry: Availability, Documents and Alternatives

With Balearia · from 13 h

The Oran to Almería ferry links the port of Oran with the port of Almería. It is the shortest connection between western Algeria and the mainland, and it is operated by Baleària.

It is not a daily route and may have no sailings on sale on your date. Check the search tool: if nothing shows today, Baleària's alternatives are Oran–Valencia and Mostaganem–Valencia; Oran–Alicante is run by other operators in season.

With an Algerian passport or dual nationality, bring it valid, with a return ticket, and check your Schengen visa or residence permit before boarding: Baleària may refuse you access.

With a car you need the carte grise in your name and valid; the fuel charge when leaving Algeria is set by the Algerian State.

The Oran–Almería route is run by Baleària, which took over the Algeria routes of the former Naviera Armas (now operated by Baleària). The search tool only shows what is on sale today, and there is not a sailing every day.

On Baleària's routes with Algeria the fuel charge is included and changes are stricter than on other lines.

Oran to Almería ferry price

If there is a sailing on your date, the price above is the lowest recent one for one adult without a car. It depends on the accommodation (seat or cabin), the car, the date and whether you are travelling one way or return. To travel to Algeria, Baleària requires a return ticket: check it in the search tool before deciding.

Routes with Algeria have stricter changes: before the day of travel you can only change by paying the new fare.

Oran to Almería ferry with a car

If the route is on sale, you can take a car by entering the type, make and model when you search. The ferry companies operating with Algeria ask for:

  • Carte grise in your name, valid and without crossings out. No car with a provisional registration plate is boarded.
  • Original written authorisation, signed by the owner and by the person driving the car and stamped by a notary, town hall or public body, if the car is not yours.
  • Insurance and driving licence.

When leaving Algeria, the Algerian State charges the TCC (tax on fuel consumption). With Baleària it is included in the ticket.

Travelling from Oran to Almería with a dog

If there is a sailing, Baleària accepts pets. To travel between Algeria and Spain you need a passport or animal health certificate, a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and, depending on the origin, an antibody test done three months in advance. See travelling by ferry with a dog.

Ports of Oran and Almería

How to get to the port of Oran

The port of Oran is in the city. Baleària publishes opening hours for the Oran port area that change between winter and summer, and in summer check-in for departures from Algeria is requested many hours in advance. Do not rely on habit: check the advance time on your ticket.

Arriving in Almería: the port and onward travel

The port of Almería is next to the city centre. When you disembark you go through passport control. From Almería, the A-7 motorway leads to Granada, Murcia and Alicante.

Documents: Algerian passport, dual nationality and visa

  • Algerian passport: to leave Algeria, Baleària accepts an Algerian passport, a passport from another country together with an expired Algerian passport, or a biometric Algerian identity card. With none of these, a safe-conduct from the Algerian consulate.
  • Entering Spain: a Schengen visa or a valid EU residence permit. Baleària checks your authorisation before boarding and may refuse you access. Data and biometrics are recorded with the European EES system.
  • Dual nationality: Algeria considers you fully Algerian; leave Algeria with the Algerian passport and enter Spain with the European one.
  • Spaniards and other Europeans: an Algerian visa is compulsory and is not issued at the border; apply for it at least four weeks before.
  • Return ticket compulsory to travel to Algeria.
