Barcelona to Nador Ferry: Long Crossing with Car, Cabin and Passport

With GNV

The Barcelona to Nador ferry is run by GNV between the port of Barcelona and the port of Beni Ansar, in Nador (Morocco). The crossing takes more than a day, with nights on board, and there are only a few departures a week.

With a Spanish passport you need a valid passport with more than six months' validity: the DNI is not accepted. With a car, the original vehicle registration document, insurance and the D16TER form.

If you live in Spain with a Moroccan passport, to return take your passport and your valid residence permit, or a Schengen visa.

It is the option for getting to Morocco without driving across the whole Peninsula.

Barcelona to Nador ferry timetable

There are few departures a week, more often in summer. In the search tool you see the days and times for your date, in the local time of each port. Start by looking at the days with a ferry: with so few departures, those are what matter.

The crossing includes nights on board. GNV publishes that check-in opens about nine hours before departure and closes four hours before; confirm the cut-off times on your ticket, because they can change.

The return has its own page: Nador to Barcelona ferry.

How long does the ferry from Barcelona to Nador take?

More than a day, with one or two nights on board. GNV publishes a duration that varies by departure. In the timetable you see the one for each date. For anyone who does not want such a long crossing, Almería–Nador crosses in a few hours.

The route is run by GNV, which publishes it in both directions. It belongs to the Grimaldi group and has cabins and reclining seats.

No other ferry company has a direct ferry from Barcelona to Nador according to the sources. If you prefer a shorter crossing, look at the departures from Almería.

Barcelona to Nador ferry price

The price you see above is the lowest recent price for one adult without a vehicle. On a crossing with nights on board, what weighs most is the accommodation: seat or cabin, inside or outside. The car is paid according to type and measurements; enter the make and model when you search.

Compare it with driving to Almería or Algeciras and taking a short ferry: it depends on how much you value time, fuel and the tiredness of the journey.

Barcelona to Nador ferry with a car

It is a route designed for people travelling with a car and a lot of luggage. Documents:

  • Original vehicle registration document and a valid driving licence.
  • If you are not the owner, a certified authorisation from the owner; to enter Morocco, a transfer document validated by the Moroccan consulate.
  • Insurance with the maximum cover and the D16TER temporary import form.

The car deck is closed during the crossing: you cannot get to the car. Take medication, documents and anything else you will need to the cabin. The declared dimensions must match those of the car, roof rack included.

Travelling to Morocco with a dog from Barcelona

GNV accepts dogs and cats, included in the booking. The only indoor accommodation is the "Four-legged Friends" ("Amigos de cuatro patas") cabin, with limited places and a maximum of two animals. Otherwise, there is a kennel or cat kennel and walking areas on deck. Bring a lead and a vaccination booklet.

To enter Morocco, a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and a health certificate are required; sometimes, an antibody test. Confirm the official requirements. More information in travelling by ferry with a dog.

On board: cabin, seat and luggage

There are cabins and reclining seats. On a crossing with nights, the cabin gives you rest and a safe place to leave your hand luggage. GNV does not limit luggage weight; hand luggage means personal items, with up to two suitcases as personal luggage. The car deck is closed: bring up what you need before boarding.

Ports of Barcelona and Nador

How to get to the port of Barcelona

The ferry leaves from the terminals of the port of Barcelona; the exact terminal appears on your ticket, and it is worth confirming it before you set off because the port has several. With a car, arrive early and follow the boarding signs.

Arriving in Nador: Beni Ansar

The ship arrives at the port of Beni Ansar (Beni Enzar), next to the city of Nador and very close to the border with Melilla. On disembarking you go through police control and Moroccan customs, with your car if you have one. From there, by road, you go to Nador and the rest of the Rif.
